Hey, burners.
This has been a long time coming as I keep injuring myself :/
So I've now put some decent time on the Wreckoning to give a quick review.
To say the bike is ridiculously good.
I was expecting it to be a steam train everywhere, which it is. But it is surprisingly nimble.
Climbing:
For a 160mm 29er, it climbs really well. Better than my last bike ( remedy 26')
The seat angle isn't great, I run my saddle tilted forward (think Concord) to counter it.
But the bike definitely isn't a "fast" climber.
Also due to the BB height, you need to be wary of clipping pedals on things, even in its higher setting.
Descending:
Holy ****.
This bike is faster than my downhill bike was. Even at slow speeds, it just eats up everything.
Once speed starts to pick up it gives a massive margin of error. I've hit loose rocks in flat turns( enough to make me think I'm going OTB), and the bike just eats it.
But it really comes into its own on steep, fast and rough trails. Anything else feels mellow.
I'm yet to see a need to use the X-LOW setting, as its too low to use in Canberra.
( as a note, when the bike is at speed it has enough pop, that it launches itself with very little effort).
It is very hard to explain how this bike feels on the smoother tracks. It keeps accelerating with very little effort. But makes the straighter tracks boring.
Spec:
To say, Its heavy for a carbon frame. Mine weighs in at roughly 13kgs for a size large built with ARC 35s and DVO forks. But on the trail, it doesn't feel heavy. ( and the internal dropper routing gets stuck on install)
The chain clearance does suck, even on a 36 ring. ( I suggest going a 36 with a big cassette on the rear to avoid the 10-12t sprockets)
The RS monarch that comes on the bike, makes the bike lower than I think it should be, it really sits in its travel. Which makes technical climbing a challenge. ( I'll have a PUSH 11.6 coming soon). It does an alright job in the rougher stuff but does start to feel overwhelmed after a while. It also leaks air until its broken in. The evil also requires a higher than normal pressures which doesn't help the seals.
The DVO diamonds are a stellar fork. I've injured my right hand badly, to the point that my hand fatigues and gives way after about 3-5 mins of descending. The OTT negative spring adjustment makes a huge difference with this. The other adjustments are noticeable as well. The DVO tuning guides are also a good baseline.C
The ARC 35 rims are monsters and I don't notice them. (no issues whatsoever)
The i9 hubs. They're loud, but serve there purpose as a bell. Oh, and they are fast engaging too.
The Minion DHR 2 and SS. I found they are great all-around tires but the SS does look (and feel) a little square at lower pressures
The guide RSCS brakes are great.... in the cold. Will be getting replaced for TRPS soon.( or similar)
Wolf tooth dropper lever: No issues, always works and its easy to use while riding.
Chromag cockpit: Its chromag, Nuff said.
Would I recommend it? ---- YES!. But its more a fun bike rather than a race bike.
I'll add some parts once I've got my 11.6 and some brakes that work properly
