Fitting a new stem.

When swapping the frame on my old bikes I found that I couldn’t get the stem tight enough against the headset to hold the fork solidly and hence the fork was loose.

I’m going to take the Axiom shorty that is on my old bike and put it on the ryde but don’t want to encounter the same problem.

So what I’m really asking Is there a trick to attaching the new stem so that this doesn’t occur again or was it simply that the headset ect, On my old bike didn’t want to play nice?

Thanks

Did you leave tighten the bolts in the right order? i.e: Tighten the one on top of the stem till it's snug on the headset THEN tighten the two at the back of the stem. The top one sets the headset pressure then the other two clamp the steerer tube and hold it all in place.

if you arent going to cut your steerer at least put something cushy there if its way to long! trust me its not good for your chest! or you could leave it and get a crazy angle on your bike!
