There is no loop hole. He has merely entered in a saloon/production 2wd category. The 2 supposed $400k WRC cars he beat finished 2 1/2hrs behind the leaders and both entrants were wild cards/invitations and obviously had massive issues/crashes.
Must have been hell doing it without support crew though. Surely he could have rustled up a few mates with a carton of beer to a least make fun of him!

Did you really think that a a 20yo 2wd car slapped together in mums garage could really compete with the funding, experience, organisation and manpower of say Prodrive.

Must be a hell of a driver AND a hell of a mechanic. What a legend!
Yep, love the description of how he fixed the fuel pump.

"Using only a screw driver and a pocket knife borrowed off of a local cop Bill removed the pump from the car, stripped wires out of the in car video system and jumped the pump forward and in reverse off the car's battery until it spit out the piece of sand that clogged it."

Yep basically...
Entered in the 'Rally America' support event, with one locally entered ex WRC Peugeot 206 which won the category by more than 45 minutes (still literally hours behind the WRC teams), 2 Gr. N Evo IXs, 2 fwd Peugeots, 2 fwd Renault Clios and a Gr. N fwd non turbo Lancer. He finished fourth out of the five finishers.

Clearly it was still a good effort, but its more on the level of being privateer PRC awd cars at an Aussie round, than beating $400,000 world rally cars with a $500 beater.
