I got a custom frame made up from Marino bike to scratch an itch i had with the new school geo built around 29" wheels. Turns out I absolutely love it, climbs like an absolute beast and is stupidly fast and stable.
But.... I am a massive bike slut and have champagne tastes. So I sold my evil insurgent frame ....
I came accross a Geometron G16 frame on pinkbike over in Europe for a really decent price. It had a brand new front triangle and a used rear end that had all the bearings replaced. I got in contact with the bloke selling it who turned out to be Paul Shephard from geometron / mojo rising. I arranged to have an invoice sent to finalize payment of this frame.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) the frame I was after was also listed on eBay in the United kingdom and it sold over the weekend before they sent me the invoice.
Paul being the legend that he is offered me a brand new Geometron g16 at the same price with a 5 year warranty. I grabbed a hope headset and seat collar off them also, which they installed and changed the decals to geometron.
The Geometron G16 is made by Nicolai but varies slightly. Slacker and and 83mm BB are the main differences.
They use an 83mm to improve tyre clearance and allow it to be built as a 27.5" or 29" bike. The geometey can be retained in either size using a couple of unique features like the mutators and ET key. I think the BB is raised slightly in 29" guise but can be lowered using offset bushings.
Frame can be run with a 216x63 shock to give 155mm rear travel or a 222x70 shock to give 175mm travel. There is a chip (ET key) where the shock mounts which flips around allowing this.
So to me seems like the bike is super versatile. I have a 216x63 shock and some 27.5 bits that I have used accross a few bikes that I will keep on this build.
I also have a steel single pivot Marino so will use the parts of that to trial this in 29er mode too.
Further down the track I'll probably grab cheap 222x70 shock and maybe even a dual crown fork for shuttles. Two bikes in one!
Cant wait to build and ride the beast.
Here's the details on the build.
