Gravelburn Kevin... I mean Curve GXR Ti

Oddjob

Merry fucking Xmas to you assholes
Two bikes done in two days!!! It must be the end of days!

Picked this frame up when Curve had their sale not that long ago. Got my friendly local roadie lunatic mechanic to put it together for me. She is surprisingly light given the size of the frame and very very comfy.

Them there forks have some mounting points... and, are they rack mounts at the back... I know someone who has some saddle bags that would turn that sled into an aweome camp/cycle sled....

a really, really sexy one

I'm the Rotorburn average of 193cm. The Curve geometry chart suggests it's a 62cm frame by the old seat tube measure.

Spanky, I do indeed have a Surly front and rear rack, and some candy red panniers... Unfortunately I also have two kids so my dreams of touring Northern Italy will have to wait a few years.

No you can't fit on Kevin in the meantime. Unless I break your arms and legs Gattaca style.

Nice build.
I was seriously looking at a Curve when that sale was on.
Those michelins are ...28mm?
Are you going to run two wheel sets?

Yep 28mm. Just using them up as I had them sitting around. I do have a second wheel set but it's a lightweight set for hitting cols on the roadie. Will put some Vittoria Terrano Zeros on the Curve later.

So I've got a few longish rides under my belt and Kevin is a hit.

My goal with the bike was to have something comfier than my Lynskey roadie with its deep dish wheels and super stiff frame. And also not weigh over 10kgs like the Lynskey monster cross.

Kevin meets all of those goals and then some. The ride is very comfy without feeling like a wet noodle. The weight is very good even with the alloy rims and cockpit.

The GRX400 Brifters are very good. The gear changes are positive, and I've got heaps of brake capacity although admittedly I'm kind of cheating with the Hope calipers and Jagwire floating rotors.

The Ztto T47 bottom bracket is surprisingly excellent. Runs as smoothly as the CK BB on the monster cross. The added bonus is the huge size of the bearings for longevity.

The DT240s are nice hubs but I still find the uneven pitch of the ratchet weird compared to the Hope and I9 hubs I have on the mtbs. CX-Ray spokes make for a surprisingly efficient wheel set. Finally the lightweight TPU tubes mean that I don't have that much of a weight penalty running alloy rims.

My son's love the Cockatoo head badge for bonus points.

I have found the same thing with the dt hubs. Used to it now, doesn't do it on as noticably every wheelset.
I have only the 18 tooth ratchet for the road bike and two 36 ratchets on separate mtb wheelsets. So, don't really hear it on the road bike, but the uneven whirr is really noticable on the other wheelsets.
