Great, now I don't like my new forks - Pyga Hyrax build thread

What @kten said.
TTX air is an amazing shock. I’ve put a few extra psi in mine and it is now amazing. Mezzer is also a brilliant fork. For the $$$$ I don’t think you can beat the mezzer.

I can also confirm the CC Kitsuma coil and air are exceptional. No idea about service and maintenance but for feel they're excellent.
They are both quite good but a possible drawback with the Kitsuma (air and coil) is that is has a very wide range so finding a terrible set up easily is possible if you aren't on the ball. Also because the range is pretty large, the range between two clicks can be too big, sometimes leaving you wanting a click in between for fine tuning. Ohlins is get the pressure dialed, get rebound in the ballpark, hit some jumps to test progression...add/take away rings as necessary..fine tune rebound..done (that's a very simplified version of spending half a day bracketing but hey, some don't do that:p)

Can also get a top out on the Kitsuma coil if you like quick LSR. One of the reasons I sold mine.

Oh sorry you misunderstood. I'd go the Ohlins over the CC. I'd also go the Mezzer over most forks too.
Right, you mean Mezzer fork (was thinking the MAnitou rear shock). Yeah, I got you on the Ohlins ;) Reckon I'll be hitting my limit at $950 for the CC, still got to factor in mounting gear, shipping, etc.

Might sell the existing RS RT3. No idea how much I should ask for something like that, only about 15-20 rides old (only about 8 of those rides were serious hit outs as well).

Now, I may not be a religious man, but I do believe that this here bike is God's fucking gift to dirt.

So, apparently you're supposed to get forks serviced....

My forks are beyond repair, I am told. I'm also told that RS have a service schedule of only 50hrs!?! Fox is 125hrs.

With that, I'm in the market for new forks (wife won't be pleased....). I liked the Lyriks, but am not overly keen on forks that need a service every 4 fucking months - I am not set up to do that myself, plus given the cost of a service it will only be 20-24 months and I will have spent the cost of new forks on just getting services!

Are people still drinking the Mezzer Kool Aid? Anyone think I should be able to service a Lyrik without having to spend another couple of hundred to buy tools for the job?

Thoughts on a higher-end 150mm fork for the Hyrax?

50 hours would be refreshed foam rings and lower splash oil. Easy to do. Fox are the same. The 100 hr would be full service eg damper service and lowers refresh.

No room at home to drop lowers and refresh? In Aussie conditions they need the refresh or dust eats the stanchions.

Dirt works have Mezzer on sale currently still requires regular servicing.

I do have the room, it was the setup that I was concerned about. I watched a quick youtube vid (only scanned it) and the dude seemed to be using a number of task specific tools, which I expected to be about $2-400 worth, knowing how companies charge for that kind of shit.

Mainly for the damper. Long time since I owned a Rock Shox fork. Last time the lowers could be dropped without special tools. Fox need tools to release the lowers but can be had on Ali cheap. Manitou requires their tool kit.

I refresh the lowers myself (foam rings can be bought cheap on Ali) and send the damper off for service as by the time I get the tools and likely screw something up easier to send away.

Mezzer only needs a cassette tool and some basic spanners, nothing special.

Is the thin walled 8mm and slotted cassette tool still needed?
A standard cassette tool works fine when you compress the air shaft and also means using it this way reduces the risk of scratching the shaft to near zero (near zero....nothing is foolproof especially with beer). Not sure what the thin walled socket would be used for?

As @shiny said, 50 hours service is a lowers refresh. Drop lowers, clean, replace foam rings/wiper seals if gack, fresh oil, put back together.

No special tools needed for 50hrs, just Allen keys, mallet, work stand or clamp and probably a few swear words.

More swear words and tools are needed for longer service intervals.

Thin wall was on my old 26” Mattoc. Memory says for releasing air side.

Yeah, not much too it @johnny. A tube of Sliko or similar and a bottle of Supergliss 68k or Motorex 5W racing oil and you have every fork covered. Then a socket set that you probably already have.

I rarely replace foam rings, just roll them between paper towel using a spray can of some sort of round rolling implement till they have no oil left in them, then soak in whatever bath oil you are using.

Its all on YT and they'll feel great after.
