Have Mountain Bikers become the new Motards?

We use to have very tight trails that were only a spade width or 2 wide. There were trees that you could not get 700mm bars through. These trails where an awesome challenge and most of them are now 1m wide and the trees are cut.
Yes, I've see a bit of this happening too. Tree damage from getting clotheslined by 800mm bars looks to be trend.

But by far the worst is the fucktard painting yellow lines down big rock rolls to indicate their line choice.
That would drive me crazy.

What do people mean by removing features? i've only ever seen people add features to trails.
Knocking down jumps, knocking down berms, dragging logs or rocks off a trail...lame shit don't by lame people. If you didn't build it, don't change it. If you can't ride it, fuck off and ride something weak until you are better. Some trails are built difficult to keep loosers off them.

I genuinely wonder if theres a bunch of Ned Flanders types out there removing challenging features because they are far too hard for them or is it kids getting hurt and parents demanding they be removed.

I think b-lines might be a necessary evil.
I mean if I cant ride something I walk it but I don't expect other people to have the same level of common sense, but if there is a b-line there then theres no excuse to remove the feature.

I think mostly it's the bolded option.

Makes me both annoyed and disappointed. If you're making something easier by destroying it (and in doing so, destroying it for everyone else) - how do you progress? Takes the progression, learning and experience gain out of it... how do you get better as a rider if you're not pushing yourself every now and then. Half the fun in riding for me is learning how to better my riding, I mean by all means don't do something if not comfortable, but don't then ruin it for everyone else. :(

I'm pretty consistently a B-line rider, so obviously I'm in favour of the things.
I'm sorry dude, but this forum is dedicated purely to A-line senders...it's time to go.

Wylde downsized ones of the A-line jumps since it looked to be magnet for newbies armed with cameras, Insta sprinkled with Strava accounts to get an awesome d00dy jump shot. Mind you, it wasn't even a big jump, a minor drop even by my nancy standards. The ambulance has been there a few times. It goes something like this........

I don't wish bad on anybody but, well, it is hard to watch without wondering.
I guess it wasn't a piece of piss Matt! I love that fellow's optimism...wearing a camera, fucking lol.

Thats a sweet obstacle. I would be keen for some shit lime that in my hood.

Point the kids in the right direction and they are usually pretty good about doing the right thing.
Not around here. Kids are specialising in stupid ideas, lazy efforts, and arrogant douche drinkers.

Pretty sure it is. Pricks who get pissy pants when they can't ride things...I've seen plenty of jumps that I would rate as easy on trails that are meant to be hard kicked down and destroyed with the tell tale sign of cleated shoes and skinny tyres in the dirt all around them.

That video just keeps on giving.
The dude at the end is like on a runaway train.
If you're talking about the Wylde camel toe drop yeah that's funny, it's an easy roller and lander.

There's a steeper and tricker one after it that sends you into a dip not a drop which is eroded and is a otb special. They should have removed this one not the first in the vid which is easy peasy.

Strava Straightlining is the pits...

why f~ck a perfectly good corner so you be an imaginary hero at the top of some virtual crap leaderboard. Until every other imaginary hero does the straightline, and bumps you down the virtual order. Meanwhile the corner disappears and the tracks gets more sanitised and boring as bat shit.

(The Wylde MTB trail crash video) Always a great idea to turn a giant cheese grater into a set of whoops lol

Road helmets and clip ins....plus strava (and new riders on ebikes) and somehow the trail smoothing fairy seems to appear on the trails much more often. Very difficult to catch the trail smoothing fairy in action, I suspect they work in teams and have lookouts so they're not discovered as I think there would be a bit of a disagreement between the mtb'er and the motherf#$%ers who mess with the trails.

it was fun but very easy to hit the end with not enough speed, and given its a facility with a single non-tehnical track there it gets a lot of beginners. I never crashed but had a few nose-heavy landings and saw enough reports of collar bones to understand why it was removed. they repurposed the grills onto another decent feature anyway so not a great loss.

there was a few very short and pretty flat rock gardens on the trail that got removed totally, like kangaroo head. pity as they were the sort of thing that steps people up from path cycling on dirt. worst case you walked 5 metres.

Still...such a loss. I'll be trying to figure out how get one of these on the agenda locally I think. Though parks authority have told me plenty of times that they don't want any features that are constructed by foreign materials. Well...unless that is dirt or rocks they bring in or rubbish/rubble that was dumped there after the earthquake. No funky stuff and certainly they are afraid of timber because one day it needs to be replaced...big sigh. Big big sigh...it all needs maintenance you dimwits.

You would think a bunch of rocks and a Bobcat excavator would solve a big part of it.
Rocks make sense and I enjoy looking for the sloppier lines since they are always more fun.

^^^ @Mr Crudley .
This is why i like to ride the Moto tracks in Wombat - chewed up . rutted deep chutes over roots and random trees thrown down !
Its interesting and keeps me guessing .

Im gonna admit tho, these are not the standard groomed trails in the 'network'

Annnnnd , i ride my Devils Spawn E-Mtb on them .........

Moto on a moto track, makes sense.

I'm only just starting to hit the tamer obstacles so I appreciate a B-line but agree it should be slower and not impact the A-line at all. Wouldn't dare fuck with the trail.

Our local trails have had some serious shovel time over the lockdown period from all the school kids.
Not a single thought goes into the overall trail, just insert a feature wherever it fits.

It is hilarious how their young minds see things and not in the way that makes things better
