Helmet recomendations

After using a road helmet for 10 years, i think i should be looking at a new lid.

I dont mind the new trend in mtb helmets, but what works well?

Ill add that i will be buying online. CRC and wiggle have bugger all on their sites, is this because of aus certification???

Not to worry, pushys has a large choice at reasonable prices.

I got the bell super 2r about 6 weeks ago. very comfortable helmet the venting works very well on the hot days.
it's good to have the chin bar option when you feel the need. pushys have the bell super on sale if you don't want the removable chin bar.

I'm running a Bell Super. It's really comfortable but I sweat way more in it than I did in my Fox Flux. I find the forehead padding doesn't stop the sweat. In fact it pisses down into my eyes which is really annoying. For a full face I have a Met Parachute which has a forehead pad that is designed to "channel" sweat away from the eyes. It works really well. The open face version is the Parabellum. When it's time to get a new open face that's what I'm going to get. My mate is running one and rates it too.

Cheers Scott.

I'm using a Fox Flux and I get the sweat running into my eyes issue.
At times if I bend my head down and forward, sweat drips like it's like a tap drizzling from the build up with nowhere to run off.

Good helmet though, super comfy and fairly deep fit so you don't look like a mushroom.

The best helmet is the one that fits most comfortably. Different people have different shaped heads, so only you can know what is comfortable for you.

Comfort and fit!

I would recommend just going and trying on helmets. When I was replacing my last helmet I went to 4 different shops and tried on all the models they had in the shape/purpose that I was after. It can down to 2 and then it was just a choice of style/colour and $.

The main thing I was looking for was what felt like it was the right shape for my head, vent placement can have a big effect on where the helmet presses on the skull. And I just decided that when I found the right one and it was about the price point I was able to spend just buy it and support a local shop.

Parts can come from online shops and around the world but shit that has to match your body, best to try and then buy.

Thi. For some reason I just can't fit the met helmets. Then there was the stupid marketing scam of kabuto and their 'asian head' theory. Well I have never been so wrong on that. Fits my asian head like a glove!

I too have the Kabuto and love it - I must allegedly have some sort of deformed Irish head....

I have a super 2r, fox flux, met parachute and specialized ambush. Ambush is the best open face i've used by a mile, not cheap though.

This.

I am happy with my Fox Flux, because it fits and is comfortable.

The next Fox model above however didn't fit, similarly for 661 (even though my 661 full face fitted fine when I was racing BMX).

First post... woo!

I just bought a Bell super 2. Got sucked into going with the MIPS one seeing I was replacing the helmet after splitting my old one in a stack. Nothing like a bout of concussion to make you appreciate your noggin!

Tried on quite a few helmets in a few shops and the Bell felt most comfortable.

With helmets its basically whatever fits your head. Not really worth buying online, you also never know what might have happened to it in the post!

halo headbands and bandanas are the answer there. I went from a limar to a giro hex, so much more comfortable. Like other say, it's more about how it fits you than any one best.

TLD A1 & Supe 2R here.

Love the A1, so damn comfy it's not funny.
Love the 2R in with the chin guard on, comfortable enough, but when the guard is off it just feels like a bucket on my head..

Wish TLD did an A1 with removable chin guard

I have used a Uvex helmet in the past, when I borrowed it from a friend. It was the best fitting helmet ever. Has been through 10 people in our riding group and all but one person have said it was the best thing they have ever used. Doesn't guarantee you'll love it, but I'd say it's worth a shot.
If you can find a retailer :flypig:

Also ignore money when helmet shopping. A budget heltmet that fits well will protect your grey matter better than an expensive one that doesnt - and vice versa.

Turns out my head shape has relativly expensive tastes, but thankfully not top shelf!

I have been through a few helmets over the past few years, from Bell, Urge, Met and TLD. They all have more or less done the trick, but the half shell I have now is leagues above. IXS Trail.

Highly recommended!!! ... They also do great pads if you are in the market for those as well.
