Help needed with putting back rear wheel BMX...

Hi guys this may sound weird, but I have taken my rear wheel off to change the tyre and now when I have put it back I got issues with chain tension, and the freewheel. When I pedal forward things are fine. But when I pedal backward (there is enough looseness in the chain) the chain seems to tighten up in a particular area when pedaling backwards and causes the freewheel to stiffen/seize up. then when its past this point it goes loose again and its all good. Have no idea what I have done, I thought this would be a simple procedure. I have chain tensioners on and dont tighten these up to much. Please let me know of what I may do to fix this.

Also need ideas on how to improve my braking. I have Felt BMX black rims and koolstop pads but braking is not great is this cos the rims are painted.... I have a gyro aswell. Thanks guys....

Your chain might be stiff in some points. Is is rusted?
Normally, when the chain is rusted, the chain starts to snap, and in the parts of the chain where it is snapped, the chain goes over the freewheel, and it bends it, snapping the other side, eventually snapping in half, and your knee to SLAM into the stem. (I've experienced it.)

Also, what do you ride.
Because not many people run brakes these days with park and street riding...
My brother has a Gryo. And it's crap, screws the brakes up heaps. Makes it harder to adjust and whatnot...

its a good chain no rust at all so no idea as to why this is happening... is there a trick to aligning or putting wheels on or sumthing? its a well looked after bike?

MC:)

Only other thing I can thing of would be you have a broken tooth, or the freewheel got dirt and grit in there.

ok thanks not sure ill look into it again. its weird....

as i said the chain is nice and loose then gets tight during the pedaling backwards

anywayzz thanks

Ah.
Are the axle nuts nice and tight... If not the wheel could be slipping backwards tensioning it more making it harder?

Double post; whoops.

Um. This is what you should do...

Take the chain off the rear cog, and the sprocket.
Now spin the freewheel backwards, see if it gets tight when you do that.

u hvae dead links
i have the same problem
if u undo chain and put it bak on sumtime they seize uop and u cnt move em
new chain only option

your sprocket could be bent?

take your chain off and spin your freewheel and youll find out if its got to do with the freewheel being dead.

other than that it could be your chian is rooted.

or your sprocket is bent.

didnt read the rest of the thread so these might have already been said.

Said exactly what you said :)

well just had a look the chain is fine its not tough in any areas.... only thing i could find is that the freewheel is a bit rough in the way it spins. it goes ok but maybe not as smooth as u would want. would this be causing the issue u think?

Most likely failure to bring it to a bike store?
I'd suggest to take it to your LBS.

To me it sounds like a tight spot like your sprocket isnt centerd properly on your spindle or either your chain or driver isnt in very well condition
