Hi, if you went to the dh race or even the x country race you would know how bad the conditions were. Post your comment. Should the event have taken place? Was it safe for the riders? Any broken bones or bad stacks due to the conditions? Both my wheels locked up by the time I entered the forest, I pushed/slid my bike the rest of the way down the mountain. It took ever 30 minutes and $30 at the local car wash to clean my bike. Should riders be compensated as I think the track was not fit to be riden?? Did any one complain to the organizers? Over to you...

not one ambo was needed for the downhill, so im pretty sure it was an awesome day, its more of a challange anyways.

That's the chance everybody take's mate. Weather could be good one day the next really shit. And with the compo bit no way, I personaly wasn't there but i remeber the conditions at beerburrum and the weather there wasn't to fancy but still had a wicked weekend. And the riders ride at there own risk.

sorry but are you kidding ? do you think the gold coast mountain bike club are made of money ? they only just managed to put the event on let alone pay for 'compensation'. if anything you should be saying thanks because its people and clubs like Harvey and gold coast mtn bike club that make illinbah happen in the wet or dry if people keep on complaining do you really think that's going to motivate Harvey to keep on trying his best to hold these events? because i don't.

Seriously? I am honestly pinching myself, just to see if I'm awake and actually just read that.

Of all the ignorant, pig headed things I've read on this site; this certainly rates up there.

First of all, how old are you? 11-12? If so, the small, black shrivelled part of my heart known as 'pity' has sparked momentarily to allow you a pass on this, if not, by god, you deserve to have 'twat' tattooed onto your forehead.

Did you help organise this event? Once the busses have been booked and deposits paid there is no going back. If, under the most severe of near apocoliptic weather they decided to call it off, (and trust me, Harvey's a tough-nut, and not even a rhino hell-bent on mass rape would stop him) then it would be at an immense loss to the club.

Ride within your limits. Can't ride the track? Too bad. You paid, you knew the risks of the weather in the oh so sunny part of the world, and you chose to give them your money regardless. So you tried to ride the track, and it didn't work. See how many people did ride, and how many actually liked it? Who else do you have to blame but yourself? Nobody forced you to open your wallet and pull out your card, and anybody with any common sense can type the three very simple letters "B-O-M" into google to get the forecast, so at the end of the day, it was your fault you didn't like it.

To come onto a public forum and incite uproar from the public because you didn't like the track is just moronic.

Crawl back into the hole from whence you came, and never emerge again.

Ok, To start off, I agree conditions were hard. Possibly the coldest i have ever been on saturday afternoon.

BUT. To start with the first point yes I think the race should of been run. If you cancell an event everytime it is wet we would constantly be re-running races (The last two for example).

Was it safe for riders?? Its downhill for christ sake. wanna be safe?? Take up chess.

$30 at a car wash. I used a gurney at home. And im pretty sure some kind of car wash/ bike wash and elbow grease would have got the job done for about $1.50.

Lastly i think the organisers did a great job. Everything ran awesome for the full two days. No one should complain to them atall. Im sure they didnt ask for it to piss down rain and make the conditions miserable.

Mabey next time you can come along and lend a hand to show them how its done???

Want a tea spoon of cement?
It was your choice to race if it was so bad why did you race?

I went... I pushed/slid my bike the whole way after the forest section. It was very slippery and everyone at least slipped over or fell once. I noticed a few people sitting under the first aid tent but its like that at any race i quess. It was my first time in the sunshine series and even though I didnt end up racing I still had a great time watching other people pin it down the bottom. I think it was a good weekend and I enjoyed it. Thanks to the marshals and organisers.

Thanks Sean :)

So pretty much, by the end of the day the track was in mint racing condition bar the forest. Practice was a mission for everyone, not only you. From what i saw everyone was having a great run by the end of practice/race run. Again this also came down to what tyres you were running during practice and race runs. The track condition and safety would of also been a problem if it had kept on raining.

Like i said the track was fine to race by then end of the day! As for washing your bike a the local car wash, why should we be compensated??? It was your own choice, as it was everyone else's who chose to ride.

Anyway thats my 2 cents :)

Really all I can say about the day was, PLAIN SICKNESS!!! It's a good challenge. That day summed up what downhill is all about.

illinbah

i race at illinbah yesterday, yes the track was muddy and yes i did have trouble and got last place in sport, went over the bars 3 times in my race run,but i had a ball and couldnt stop laughing because thats all you could do,wet, dry thats downhill get use to it.and by the why i had to put my bike on a train covered in mud,but didnt give a shit.

Having a Wah about getting my bike dirty.... ( wish your sister was that dirty )

Mate, Did you see the World Cup at Maribor ??? Where the best in the world were riding and at the end of the run bikes had 3-5 kg of mud on them...
Didn't hear any complaints about the event from any pros... they relished the challenge that the mud threw up.

Now it was your choice to go race a Illinbah ? Yes ? Plus i'm guessing you did more than one run. So your complaining after about having a great time cause you went and got you bike dirty ? Why is it their fualt you decided to ride at their event... ?
Did you pay a fee to go towards the damage your runs on the DH course did to the track that i'm guessing many people maintain of their own money and free time, so everyone can enjoy racing at one of the best spots in the country...
Done much track work for your club lately ?

Now if we all decided to back your crazy idea and agree to pay a mud compensation scheme where would that money come from ? Thats right your race fees... Which i would have no doubt you would also complain about.
Where really i would be worried about the fact that you probably filled your bearings full of water at the car wash using that High Pressure hose on your bike...

Looking forward to your next post on race fees
Just PM me when you do ;)

I'm hoping this is a troll....
Of course the event should have taken place, in my opinion the only reason for cancellation should be a large storm cell or being unable to access the shuttle road. The weather is just another variable that needs to be accounted for in a race. If you feel that a wet track is too difficult to ride then YOU SHOULDN'T have been there. You had plenty of notice that the track would be wet from both here on Rotorburn and from the weather reports on the news. If you are incapable of riding the track, the organisers shouldn't have to refund you for your incompetence. For me, riding Illinbah in the wet would be a dream come true... Unfortunately due to exams I was unable to race... Fingers crossed for rain at the National round later this year. :D
Rant Over... I guess I am just jealous that you went riding while I spent the weekend nerding it out...

Its an outdoor event, no one can guarantee the weather. Had it kept on raining then cancelling it probably should have been an option but I think a good call was made by the organisers.
Yes, the first run down it was harder to stay upright then it is for Amy Winehouse to stay sober and I too had to stop to clear the bike off after the rainforest just to be able to move it and I will admit I was ready to go home then because it just wasnt fun but it came good and ended up being a great day. I spent over 30 mins this arvo cleaning the mud off my bike and off my gear but hey, it needed a clean anyway.
Compensated..... we chose to ride it, we were told up the top before the first run that it was muddy muddy muddy but away we went. I would be annoyed if we'd ridden it that first run and it got cancelled then not get our money back or so on but as said earlier no one can guarantee the weather

Races are often called off with conditions less than this. A couple of years back there were heaps of races called off due to rain. I even think there has been illinbah races called off. It is not if the riders can get down, it is if medical can get in. Yesterday was safer than usual going on stats. Didn't see any ambo's and no heli's, must be a first for illinbah.

That is by far the worst thing you could say about the day,
All the clubs hard work, all the organising!

And you complain bout your bike being "too muddy"

BOOO FU**ING HOO

Yeah it took my about an hour too detail my bike but i was smiling the whole time because thats what the sport is about you pussy!d even though i was frustrated with the slipperyness of the forrest I had a friggen great time and I cant believe a low life ungreatful prick like yourself can blame the organisers!

I hope you never come to a downhill event ever a friggen gain! you are obviiously wayyy to soft for the sport!

my wheels locked up and i didnt care!

so back "over to you" possibly the worst post on farkin.

dickhead.

possibly the worst post on farkin. dickhead.

Worst post...I think not. He has been responsible for perhaps the first time where everyone one agrees with each other, except for the OP mind you. Good work team:D
Now at least that is a bonus
