Gday mate there is a huge range of downhill bikes
if you do a search you can find what your looking for,
do you have a price range? that can give us an idea of how much you want to send and what you can get.

my price range is around 2000,so a was thinking a second hand bike, the reason i asked about the different types of DH bikes is that some look only for DH and others are a bit more across country friendly for that price range any ideas on a good bike also how are spring shocks different to other shocks

If you're looking for a bike that's comfortable for both reasonable downhill riding and riding to work, you're probably better off looking into the "all mountain" category of bikes. Dedicated DH bikes are exactly that, whereas the current crop of "all mountain" bikes offered by most manufacturers these days are both relatively efficient pedalers that won't through you over the bars or twitch itself down the hill like a cross country bike will.

The perfect bike for you is a 2nd hand Kona Coiler or Kona Stinky with a dual chain ring setup! You can ride them to work and then downhill on them.
