Injuries. What's your story?

I'd just like to give a big fuck off to my luck...

Rebroke 2 ribs on the weekend (right side again, makes sneaky out a quick one in the dunnys at work an unpleasant proposition due to pain), spent the day at hospital again, after my last visit the triage nurse and dr's didn't stuff around and got all sorts of stuff tested. Off to see my thoracic surgeon next week - looking forward to seeing the expression on his face, surgery to plate the ribs is looking pretty likely as now they have been rebroken twice over the last 4 months.

Got a prescription for oxycontin, don't know what other people think of it, I feel no pain when on it, but I am completely smashed as well, won't be taking any more of that shit, too powerful.

Oh well, I get to wait another 4-6 weeks until i ride again. maybe xt 11 spd will be released by then.
fark dude, you have had a hideous run with those ribs. There must be pain relief meds that are a bit milder than oxycodone but more effective than panadeine. Panadeine forte is ok... but too much acetaminophen is bad for the liver.

some armour for your ribs might be worth considering... http://www.forcefieldbodyarmour.com/product/rib-protector/2350

I however am very normal. Trust me.

Yeah I've been unlucky, as I haven't been pushing my riding along.

My desk has so many drugs on it now, even got a period pain med, that is apparently good at minimising inflammation and muscle spasms - seems to work. Not getting my script for oxycodone, that shit does work awesome for pain, but the constant vomiting and what feels like aladins flying carpet around the house when i sit still is worse than putting up the pain. Wonder what they are worth down at footscray!

Main issue is I rebroke the same ribs, which after 4 months obviously haven't healed. The specialist next week is going to want to plate them... maybe it's my best option now.

I've just had surgery for the exact same break. I had a 1.5cm gap in my olecranon and a fair bit of shattering so got it wired back together last week. It's nice to hear a good story about your recovery everyone else is saying it is never going to be anywhere as good as it was. Did you get yours wired or plated?
I had the tension band wiring done. Got it all taken out when I could because it was affecting my ability to put my elbow on the table and look bored during uni lectures.

No one was that negative to me. I was young and it was a clean break so that probably all went in my favour. Anyway dude just get into those exercises once you are allowed to move it again, if they do a good job with the op the final result is in your hands..

This last time I did my arm I got 2x shots of ketamine while they were setting the bone in a temporary backslab due to the angle and position it needed to be held in for 20 minutes while they did the work.

holy shit that stuff is great, and puts you absolutely off your face. The downside is that it's quite dangerous and they have to monitor you while you are under it's effects as it can cause you to stop breathing due to the muscle relaxant effect!!!

smashed heelbone

so, here is mine from many years ago and still to this day I have pain daily and massive dull pulsating pain every day in the colder months. The leading ortho surgeon in Mater hospital said at the time I was even lucky to be able to walk. They had to fuse the heel bone to one of the others (cant remember the medical name) which limits movement/flex up and down, I don't have any balance on that foot so if I stand on it you can push me over easy. My heel bone was blown to pieces and I now have stuff like liquid nails in all the holes to reshape my heel bone. I now am starting to feel arthritis in the joints and my big toe cramps up regularly, I have to massage it to get it to bend back normally.

.....and it was all done on a DH bike but at walking pace where I had to eject, it just so happened that the way I put my foot down on a raised little rock all my body weight was forced onto the heel and it just exploded!!! >KABOOM< it blew to bits, I remembering falling down like I had jelly legs..... and then the fucking pain.

It's amazing what can go wrong in what in reality should be a minor crash with minimal injuries if any.

Sounds like the calcaneus has been fused to the talus, or perhaps more forward in the foot, to the navicular. Only problem with feet is their more complex than hands and have to cope with significantly more loading and when it goes bad long term outcomes are terrible.

Yeah,in the beginning after 8weeks off loading or walking on it everyone wanted to know how and it was such a lame story. Always wished it could of been some huge air, drop, double backflip kinda scenario but nahhhhhhhhhh... Something so stoopid got me :cheer2:

The good thing is I can still ride and not feel pain but as soon as I stop it flares up something chronic, and if I walk a lot through the day my whole foot swells up and goes red ...it becomes club foot.....

Not paying attention on the lamest of the lame-arse trails at Lysterfield 2 weeks ago, I allowed one of the pedals to hit a rock. Didnt know much about it, just whack straight down hitting the left thigh hard on the ground. I thought initially the femur was broken, thankfully it was just a corky. Unpleasant things corky's. Lots of ice and compression etc.
2 Weeks later, still cant ride. Picture shows the side of the leg that wasn't hurt.

No scar photos yet but surgery has come out nice. Turns out I snapped the head of the bone off, it went under the bone and my finger slipped back into my hand and had rotated about 45 degrees. Should have full movement back soon, gunna wrap it up in a sling and ride cruzy xc loops with one arm when the other cast comes off.

Man that looks tender!

Smashed hands has not effected the rolling ability.

What's the blend? I still miss my Dr Pat. Mix the Dr Pat with Champion Ruby for a nice mix. Sigh, I feel like one now!

Haha, I've seen you post that every time. Champion always, mate pinched one earlier and didn't think it was as heavy as win blue rollies, but it also doesn't taste like arse. Missing smokes is better than missing oxygen dude. Rolling is easy, just takes a while now. Twisting the finger the wrong way can take its toll though.

So what were todays odds, the first ride since the corkie of running into a handlebar of someones bike as I passed them while they were stopped talking, and stabbing my leg in the exact same spot as where the previous haematoma was and giving myself a brand new one!
Sportsbet had the market as 50:1!
Not happy. I swore a lot .
