Build day at Knapsack Reserve Glenbrook working on some new trail up from the lower gate. Once again working with Adrian and Synergy Trails.

Hopefully we can get quite a bit done.

Times are 8am to midday. Meet at 8:00am at the southern end of Barnet St, (below the oval).

Next build day is 23rd May. Full details of where to meet are here

Hopefully we get enough people to finish putting in this section. We have around another 80-100m to cut but we also need to do some rock armouring and trail sculpturing on the bit we cut back in April.

Well a good turnout enabled the new XC climb/descent below the soccer fields to be completed and it is now open. This enables much better access or reason to ride down to the lower gate or ride in from Glenbrook effectively extending the loop considerably.

Also the DH guys kept doing some good work to improve the DH trail working on the top section.

Will post the date and plans for the next build day as soon as we are informed by council.

A new build day for June at Knapsack on the 27th June at 8:30am this time (half an hour later start).

Not sure what the XC will be doing yet at this stage, assuming some more rock armoring. The DH guys will keep working on the top section.

A friend and I rode Knapsack for the first time last weekend, loved it! The track is varied and there's quality lines all over the place.
The only gripe I have is that we spent most of the time there lost.
Is it possible to have some signage put up?

I know it's a bit forward of me, considering that I haven't helped out with building at all, but we met quite a few lost parties that day too.

Thanks for the awesome work!

I have done trail mapping, planning the designated loop and know it intimately .... and yes I still get very confused there! It is a tangled web. We do need to talk to council and if we don't get special signage in the short term, then we need to do something more informal to mark a designated trail so people can follow their nose and wear it in.

However we need to be able to finish putting in the connecting trails to then be able to close of some of the redundant ones so there is less of a tangle. All sadly takes time.

If you want to try some trail work at Knapsack seeing we are working with Synergy Trails its a good opportunity to work with some experienced guys and get some hands on knowledge about the trails.

Another build day with BMCC at Knapsack Reserve.

XC will be finishing the trail diversion beneath the oval to avoid that rotten muddy bit. Quite a bit of work to do on this with lots of benching so numbers will be good. The pic shows where we got up too... not very far!

DH will do some more on the DH... sorry not sure what they will be trying to work on, but I suspect there is to be more refining on the top section above Lover's Walk.

Just a reminder bump that this trail day is on this coming Saturday. Weather looks ok and it will be a useful section of trail going in, but it will take quite a bit of hard work to finish it. So the more the better.

Bring any rake hoes or mattocks that you can as there will be a lot of benching to do on this one.

Successful Day.

A very busy day with a massive amount of work done with everyone working in a frenzy. The trail link is through but not yet open as the tread needs more work. Next build day in a few weeks we will refine the trail tread as well as do some rock armouring and build a larger rock rollover. This section is going to really nice and flowy.

Sadly I didn't get down to the DH to see what those guys got done!

August 29th build day.

Next build day on 29th August. More details here.

Basically finishing of the section we nearly finished in July below the oval to avoid the mud pit. Not much trail cutting to do but lots of work to do on the tread and some major rock work to get a really nice rock rollover done. Should be a really great section coupled with the bit we did earlier in the year to the lower gate.

In a marathon effort on the weekend this section of trail is now groomed and finished and open. It runs from the lower gate on Barnett St all the way below the ovals to the old creek crossing we put in a few years back. I think it worked out pretty nice with a mix of rocky sections and the latest flowy section.

Thanks for all the effort of the BMORC builders, Synergy Trails and BMCC.

Be great to see more people attend the downhill builds, not much gets done when it's just the same 5 of us and Adrian that build every time. So many enduro folk out there riding past us while we build, come on guys no dig no ride.

Definately!!!

A common complaint is people say they don't realise they are on. We are going to try and have a mailing list so at least they get an email. We may need to put up notices on the signs at the reserve too?!

For the downhill we should also post I guess in the downhill section on Rotorburn. If you guys take some photos or videos also put them up. XC vids are pretty much boring as hell but DH is much more effective visually to entice people.

But it is hard to get people along. Its bloody hard work (I'm old and went home very exhausted and achey) but damn its rewarding.

I've explored knapsack around 2 years ago and was a bit lost. I found the old red car, I think the old blonde bearded bloke who walks about the area dressed in 1970's shorts and t-shirts lives in it, or crashed it there when he was 17.

The work you guys are doing looks fun. I'll be sure to try and pop down have a look and help out.

Knapsack Build Day November 28th

Been a while since the last one but another build day at Knapsack. Synergy Trails and BMCC are still deciding what to attack this time for the XC but this day has been booked in for the XC and DH works.

We will update with further information of what the plans are as we learn them in the next few days. The more volunteers the better.

If anyone is thinking of coming to the build day on the 28th Nov can they register on bmorc link below as it helps to know the numbers so we can determine the scopes of the works better. Thanks!
