I feel a little throw up in my mouth saying it but I fear @Sky_Collapsed is correct - the only way to verify your ID is with a valid Government Identification - There is also no accounts to be "Grandfathered" in this means every single person using FaceBook in Australia will have to verify their age.
Similar to the American Social Security Number and ID that is given to you at birth and follows you for your life is a likely scenario at some stage - they will label it as a Digital ID and it will expand eventually that to keep you safe the only way is to get people to be identified to use digital platforms - and besides if your doing nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about

I have some bad news for you. They can already verify your age through the current govt id databases. It takes about 30secs to punch in your license details when you apply for a CTP quote.

Humans... There is an office chat in Hobart, and someone posted the tas Gov plan for Mt Wellington. Because our office has a healthy supply of silly people, we all kicked in with our bright ideas of what should happen. My contribution is we close the road permanently to cars because its an awesome cycling climb and we should as a state promote good cardio health so the only access should be walking or cycling. Someone said we should have a chairlift for disabled peeps and I said - nah, get the fit tourist to tow them up. We then moved on to monorails, zeppelins and trebuchets as options for access to the top.
I'm not saying it was my best work, but I thought it was funny... Apparently someone didn't, and made a complaint about me... I give up, humanity is doomed. I mean, I knew that already but its still worrying to have it repeatedly confirmed.

bit more complicated and has more negative ramifications than that and besides that having a digital ID kinda goes against what the internet was meant to be.
If the government is tracking your searches watched videos (Including porn) they will eventually build up a risk profile of yourself and put you into categories and later on use it against you and likely restrict your access to the internet (Which is a bare minimum for life these days).
It won't happen in the next ten years sure but for the sake of your kids and etc you should be more against the whole social media ban.
It will have negative ramifications if they workout a way of making it work on at least Facebook and if they manage that, the internet is finished and it will be weaponized against you.

Look if you’re worried about them using your search history against you, you need to take a look at yourself, because if it can be used against you, then you probably shouldn’t be doing it, because it would need to be pretty bad to be used against you.
I have no issues with what I do on the net, anyone who actually knows me, knows I’m no different on here than I am IRL, if anything I’m not as polite IRL as I am on here.
Digital ID, well the government tried to bring in the Australia card in the early’80s and failed miserably but then they brought in the tax file number
which is the same thing just no photo ID but is linked to bank account where you need to provide ID. So they just punch in your tax file number, which is linked to bank account now, which how you pay for internet, which is how you do all online purchases, so if you’re worried about them tracking you it’s too late.
