Little Things You Hate

LTIH :- Wanting to buy Shimano DX pedals from my lbs they want $169 the interwebs want $85 i mean i want to support my lbs id love to buy from my lbs but really double the price? I only want to support him...... Not buy him a new house on the ocean front.....

I picked mine up from my LBS for $110, Which I didn't care about paying the extra dish, But the $165 vs $85 I would struggle to cough up for..Infact I think that may even be above RRP...

The price differential sucks, but it's not your LBS making the extra cash. A number of bike shop employees (in different shops) I know buy their parts off the web because the retail price is lower than cost in their shops.

This is true, Eg, 661 veggie knees, $15 more at cost then retial off crc, no biggie, I'd have to pay freight anyway, except the importer has no stock. So it leaves little choice when my old knee guards die!

Btw rrp on dx pedals is $169

Unfortunately.

LTIH?
Corporate greed

Before you write this off as just another protest, 1 little piece of news:

From this (and many other reports across the internet and media)report

The report included a 71 per cent increase in the value of chief executive Alan Joyce's remuneration package, from $2.9 million in 2009/10 to $5 million in 2010/11.

So whilst the fucking bastard has the hide to try and move heaps of jobs offshore to save a few dollars, and then complains that the strikes against this are costing the company money, he decides that he requires a HUGE payrise for sitting in an office all day (when his business isn't even going that well).

What
The
FUCK?

Yes, I am aware he may do more than that (maybe makes his own coffee once a week), but that is just downright bullshit.

Shit like this makes my blood boil.

(no I don't work for QANTAS, nor any part of transport)

Personally, I read the above article as the union's trying to whip up some outsourcing hysteria and Qantas trying to cut jobs that are unnecessary. Can someone with knowledge that extends further from a single article clarify?

Regardless, I'm quite happy for CEO's to write their own salaries. Chances are they've worked harder than everyone else to get to the position they're in, so kudos to them.

LTYH: 'Sandwich' sliced bread.

I'm amazed that the shareholders didn't vote against it. They haven't recieved dividends in the last two years, yet they're happy to see a CEO pay increase. Baffles me.

Slightly on topic, this picture is starting to do the rounds.

As someone who is considering a career in IB, it really makes me wonder.

Hi matt, The major share holders in most of the big companies are other corporations and so the votes are cast by the CEO or some other high up in the company who also benefits from executive remuneration. Since public disclosure of executive salaries was made law, it has turned into a pissing contest as to who pulls the most dough. No exec would dream of voting down another's pay rise because then they wouldn't get support for theirs. The little share holders who depend on the income from their shares to keep the wolves at bay don't have a big enough voice to vote it down.

It gets worse than just large companies, these days a sizable proportion of the large companies are OUR super companies...

In regards to QANTAS. Here is a good fact for you 1/5 of the 35000 people who work for then are either striking or not far off. If the unions were not so stupid you would see how incompetent the management is.

I think its utter bullshit that the leprechaun can earn more money than some bank CEO's and the company showed no growth. Shares dropped, no dividends for shareholders, a small profit of 200m compared to banks that were Billions. 1000's of people lost their job so the company actually shrunk.

LTIH that stupid fucking leprechaun and QANTAS. Please drop dead you oxygen thief. Qantas please stop being a stick in the mud, Australia used to love you but you are just out of touch. Please learn how to negotiate with people and listen to the demands of your workers.... After all they are the ones who make the profit happen, as you seen in the last months!

Wasn't there a shareholder walkout on that meeting? the votes were 96% in favour of the people who voted. If the others stayed it may have been closer, but I doubt he would have missed out on the payrise.

Also, food poisoning

I think I'm about to cop a heavy dose of it thanks to eating some less then ideal Asian food, I was so hungry and it was the first shop I found, didn't even register that what i was eating was lukewarm at best till I'd nearly finished it. Now (an hour or so later) I feel pretty ill.

Yay

Gin, do people honestly drink that? Willingly? It's so disgusting!

Gin is incredibly versatile but not one I'd recommend drinking straight for someone not used to it. These days, it's kinda progressing to that speed rack variety alcohol in most bars (vodka, rum, bourbon, scotch etc) tends to need to be mixed to really bring out it's flavour (depends on the barnd of course, based on the assumption that you wouldn't be interested in top shelf styles?). G+T's are cool for simple drinking in summer though!

Bare in mind back in the day it used to be drunk room temp with no mixers (EW!)

Hah, I've never looked at it that way. I put too much faith into what I learnt in finance classes - that corporations must always maximise shareholder value... Never underestimate ego and greed in the real world huh?

And rabatt, I agree with hach - try a gin and tonic with a slice of lime on a summer afternoon.

or even gin + soda + lemon/lime with lots of ice and not too much soda. gin goes really well with citrus, just don't add too much as it will overpower the gin quite easily

Just regretting having packed away my Playstation3 for the entire of my final year of school - yr 12 HSC. That being said, I have promised myself and am unable to play my all time favourite game (Call of DutyBlack Ops) that I have been longing to play for ages since I packed it back into it's box... about 12 months still to go. :hurt::whip::censored:
