Little Things You Hate

Googling the weight of a coin does not qualify you as a nerd.

If she perhaps knew the weight beforehand, then yes, she may qualify for such a label, but in this current situation, no, no she doesn't.

What does having a giant stick up your arse abut something so trivial qualify you as being?

Then you ensure that the kitchen sink is thrown in down the track, i.e. twelve months. Negotiate a dual cab four wheel drive, phone and Internet and good pay into your agreement. If they are cutting away dead workers, not such a bad thing. As long as they are willing to take on the changes you bring. Understand that a good deal for you means their expectations will be high. Be prepared to work for it.

If it doesn't work out, you can get another job. If they have a bad rep, then industry will understand why you leave them. If you are part of the rep changing to good, your name will be held in high regard. It will be personally satisfying.

Higher risk equals higher benefits. Bare in mind, if you join the circus, you will be riding two horses at once.

No job lasts forever these days. Have a talk to your current boss. He might drop a kitchen sink on your desk just to keep you. Bargaining is the key. Seek advice from a MD you might know who is neutral.

At the end of the day, no-one does shit for free anymore. Nor should you. Good luck.

DO IT! Step outside the comfort zone. Life is too short etc.

Thats what I'm thinking at the moment.

This new position is a step up from what I am doing now. They pay rise is substantial but not too much more than what I can probably get with my current employer after negotiations. I managed to negotiate in my daily commute costs, base salary, overtime and bonus.

The good thing about my current place is that I am comfortable, and we have a pipeline of projects for the next few years. With this new place, we have to build our pipeline, so it means a lot of marketing (which I am uncomfortable with). But as said before, if all goes well then happy times all round.

Coincidentally, I do have my performance review today. They do suspect that I am being approached and gave me a "retention bonus" yesterday. I will probably mention this to my boss and see what he says.

The good thing about where I work now is their attitude to people leaving - they view the company as a career building organisation and don't hold any grudges. We have had people leave and return within a space of 12 months!

Buying a new bike & not being able to ride it yet :(

Bought myself a new commuter, well new to me a 2011 Masi Speciale CX & I have not been able to get on it & go for a serious punt to see what it is like.

Hew - it's a fun thread. why so serious??? seriously?

Hach is a uni student. she studies for - wait for it - FUN whilst working in a job that requires some serious people skills for for real money which she may well not earn once she has her quals - i know, because i did it too. i'd say she has her "nerd" quals and then some.

how about you spend a few summers wrangling disturbed teenagers whilst trying to teach them life skills on an outback property, and then come back with your condescending attitude...if you still have it afterwards.

For the new job,

Don't walk int a bar and scream out that you are going to kill every fucker in the place unless you are prepared to cop a few hits yourself. Building the future of a company sounds edgy, but it comes with dangers.

If your company is mature enough to be looking into the future and encourages cross employment, then negotiate and see which way the scales tip. You can still come back. Then you will have gained different perspectives and that will help them. Leave with the intention of coming back. You just need to spread your wings.

Where is your current company taking you now?

Study for fun?

Seriously?

yup. i do. 7 years and counting...

do i need extra points for doing it while kid-wrangling, the last two as a divorced mother of four school-aged terrors?

study with kids should be an extreme sport, like downhilling or barefaced rock-climbing...

I always wonder why the riders themselves don't get sick of it.

Loud pipes save lives aparrently, funny thing is though I am still here after a couple of decades of riding motorbikes with quiet exhausts & whns I did ride a bike with loud exhausts dickheads still tried to run over you ...........

I've got kilos of shrappers sitting in jars somewhere in my house, you're welcome to all of them just to fuck with her.

I can send her up a few tubs of loose nuts and bolts from the workshop, in exchange for the chocolate. Tell the teacher she can buy me a beer one day to call it Evens.

She would deserve something like this, it's not the first time i've felt obliged to slap her.
She drives a 200sx with disgusting chromies and is late 40's. I'll leave a potrait of her to your imagination.

Loud pipes save lives apparently

I can understand this, and it is a reasonably logical argument, but today I was standing in a park at least 100 meters from the nearest road when some douche went flying past on his Deus Ex Machina something-or-other trend bike, full throttle, and I couldn't keep the conversation I was having going because it was that loud. I mean, safety for motorcyclists is a good thing, but it gets a bit much when you can be heard for 6 blocks after you go past.

LTIH: When you have a family that just doesn't connect. Mum and Dad don't get along, nor does my sister with my Dad. However, I get along just fine with everyone. It seems all the pressure is being held on my Dad, but from my POV it's not only my dad that has to play a role, but also both my sister and mum of which have a different mindset all together from that of my dad. It seems they just won't let messages connect. My sister simply has a invisible wall in front of her brain that simply can't be penetrated, whereas my mum just won't stop fucking thinking back on the past and trying to justify. It pains me so much to have to witness such a thing, and to see my family in such a position, and I feel particularly sorry for my dad. But I can not wait for the day when it is all forgotten by my family. Only then, will things run smoothly. But I can't see that for a while to come.

It is really the thought process that is what determines all.
