Little Things You Love

LTIL - I finally got back on the bike and the train to start commuting again, listening to the radio I hear 25 minute delays on the West Gate freeway in bound, yeah it’s going to piss down rain but I’ve got a jacket and a mudguard.
Another thing I love, today is the last day I am planning for two separate sites, which is the main reason I haven’t been riding at all lately and also why I’ve been working longer hours than usual, the other guy gets back tomorrow so it’s time to handball it all back.

So from what I was told today, they have introduced AI to tell the workers what to pick, hence Woolworths goal of 100% all of the time, which is why the union stated it’s unsafe, as AI doesn’t need to go to the bathroom neither do the workers, if they do, it’s a miss, so no 100%. I know of voice picking being introduced which tells the operator what to pick but from what I was told the AI is also monitoring the workers times breaks etc.

It's bullshit - they kept pushing our online shopping pick times - you met the target then they'd raise it again because they'd see that target is achievable. These cunts run their staff into the ground and give less of a fuck than the shit they sell.
 
sounds like the amazon warehouses where you could not meet KPI's if you walked between picks. pretty cruel when they set up in dead end towns with no other employment so you are forced into barely attainable activity leevls.

Nothing wrong with pick to voice, its fast, and if combined with some extra confirm at the spot (scan the item barcode) its very accurate. this sounds like clueless management in action. Newly anointed MBA's convinced they will revolutionise the world and just piss everyone off

Yep operators with voice picking said it was a step in the right direction and embraced it, it’s quite common now, as for AI monitoring what I do is another thing, like how would I post on here when taking a dump at work, unless it helped me with my sentence structure 🤔

They'd be getting paid piece rates rather than a more typical wage. At worst, they'll be getting the minimum wage...

From one thing I read about it, the company has made them a generous offer, the offer? 42 cents an hour, so if they are on $20 an hour, so about 2%, so very generous.
 
A friend of mine works for Amazon as a picker. He reckons it's pretty good and almost enjoys it.



He is a fully funded retiree in mid 50s and really doesn't need to work. But decided it was pretty easy to drop his kids st school, punch a few hours, pick the kids up from school, and have some play money. His wife may also have had some resentment about still going to work.




As for wooworths, they can eat a bag of onions.

I don't really understand the push for faster processing of online orders. Is this so your ice-cream can sit in the sun on your doorstep for longer while you are at work? I understand about needing to get the job done on time.



Also the local wolworths and Coles staff are rude zombies while they are zipping around processing orders.
 
I don't think this will end well for the pickers at Woolworths. They are competing as a business against the Coles and ALDI distribution centres that are fully automated. I can see that this will speed up Woolworths adoption of automated distribution centres. Everything is up for disposal when it comes to the supermarkets and profit.

If you're indispensable, kicking up a stink about pay will work (see police, "tradies", nurse's.. Oh wait, just police, "tradies" etc. The nurse's get ignored too.)
 
On the radio this afternoon both parties are already pulling up on things, Woolies has parked the AI system for now and the Union said it’s willing to talk on the pay rise, most of what of seen online was incorrect they asked for 12% increase each year, which is standard fare when doing these deals, but they are willing to work with Woolies for something inline with inflation. Probably will be done in the next couple of days, Woolies is going to Fairwork for another injunction, so the union knows it has to come to party sooner rather than later, as once they have to completely remove their picket line their goose is cooked.
