@foxpuppet my assessment is on Tuesday, I don't have as many dents as your car however I'm not covered for the windscreen :(

I'd rather my car isn't written off, I guess I can decline to make a claim if it is ?

I do not want to personally meet the hail boulder that dents the a pillar of a 1999 landcruiser.
About 8 years ago a similar hail storm went through Melbs on Christmas day. Our car car was hammered on roof/ bonnet/ tailgate & all down 1 side, basically everything except 2 doors & a rear quarter pannel was stuffed. I was sure they would write it off. Apparently there are these storm chaser guys who follow the action around the world just getting in on the really big insurance claims. I was dubious, but aside from replacing the bonnet they managed to pop everything else out without paint.

A mate of mine locally has one of those hard to find V8 Nissan Patrols insured with Shannon’s, he didn’t put a claim in as his wasn’t too bad and is actually used for purpose so gets a bit beaten from time.

I think there’s a few Berowra residents who don’t want to lose cars as write offs as they can’t afford a replacement at this time.

I was hoping, perhaps naively, that it was repairable. I've never had to make a claim for hail damage, a friends honda cx5 was written off with a payout of $36k. I wasn't expecting the price to be so high, perhaps it wasn't the price of the repairs, rather they couldn't repair it. Whilst my car isn't as damaged its market value is not much. The cost to replace it for something I can trust will be 5 times what I'd get as a payout so I guess i'm driving a hail damaged pos now.

It's a shame, it scrubs up ok and I had plans this year to rectify some of the non hail damage on one side. Whilst it does affect how it goes it does affect how you feel about the vehicle. First world problem.

Speed dimples @steve jobs' pancreas! You'll be as aero as a golf ball.
That what Grandpa's Hyundai Getz was!

The trend these days is to replace, not repair. Around 2007 I manged to use a white road marker to put a crease in the bonnet of my VT Commodore and was quoted $1000 to replace it as it was "too hard to match the curves in modern cars".

So basically they couldn't be arsed teaching the apprentices properly, and another trade starts a downward spiral.

Lucky its a 4wd then, if it behaves like any golf ball I've used it will spend a lot of time in the bush.

My car is repairable however they can't warrant the repairs coz of the vehicles pre-existing state of crapness, so I get a cheque for the cost of repairs and I sort it out myself. There is a degree of risk in this, I guess I'll just fix the windscreen (which I am covered for apparently coz it was hail, not a stone or other road debris)
