Live Music Thread

Seen this little up and coming band in Launceston last night. They go pretty hard, I think they’ll do alright.
Apparently they are coming back pretty soon!

On this day 34 years ago (😬😳😱) a few mates and I ventured to the inaugural Big Day Out, and what a day out it was. Nirvana's incendiary and less than comfortable moshpit melted stamina, resilience, and Dazza's Metallica shirt with flagrant disregard. Still got the ticket as well as two items purchased on the day which somehow miraculously survived. Good times from loooong times ago!

Saw the Ramones (and the Hard Ons) at the Goldy Big Day Out 1994. Though I remember the earlier acts a lot clearer due to copious alcohol consumption 😂

TISM, Def FX, the finger and You Am I in particular (Straya :cool:)

That was a cracker. Ron from TISM was in a wheelchair, the provided reason being that it was for a fractured retina! If memory serves me correctly, Fiona Horne's top left little to the imagination.

Jumped on the bus up to Syd and saw Sumac last night.

Bit of a Aaron Turner fanboy, so was pretty mesmerised by the whole set. So f’ing heavy - 3 guys masterfully weaving some intricate structures and pummelling the air in the room.
 
Kate Ceberano, Ian Moss, Ice House and Jimmy Barnes with mum (80) wife, her dad (80).
It was great. Kate was amazing, great tunes and interaction. Ice House were mint, blew me away they could headline a festival, loud, clean, clear.... so so good.
Ian Moss and Jimmy delivered of course - great gig

I believe there’s a couple of tickets left for them here tonight and I know I should. Gigs tomorrow and Saturday are making it tricky.
 
I havent seen these guys live. I am about bit of a fan of vintage church...not familiar with anything too modern from them. I've heard they prefer to avoid being bogged down by their early hits when performing live. @steve jobs' pancreas do they strike a good balance of old + new in their gigs?
 
@poods this is the first gig I’ve seen them as the headliner.

The mix was great between hits and regular tracks. If you are a fan defo worth it. I didn’t really know what to expect, how those tracks would translate live and I was pleasantly surprised. The way I hear their music they have a bass rhythm / chord progression that they then weave tasty riffs into that build from sparseness into a wall of sound. Epic live and at volume.
 
A Place to Bury Strangers last night.

Knew it was going to be rowdy chaos but nothing could have prepared me for what was coming. Old mate swinging from the ceiling, guitars thrown around the crowd, manic drum track underlit by a roving strobe and a few songs where they dragged all their gear into the crowd and belted it out essentially right next to us.

One the wildest gigs I’ve ever been to. Pure mayhem, sonically and perfomatively.

regarding the church gig Kilbey told some interesting stories between songs, one of which reminded of the Blues Brothers when they were the good ol boys blues brothers band. Story poorly paraphrased follows:-

In the 80s the church were booked to play a pub in warnambool, as they played it became apparent that a pre Goth looking band was not being well received by the crowd. The band thought stuff it we ain’t playing our currently popular single, and finished the gig. They were upstairs when the bar manager raced up and said I don’t know whatever song it is but youse better go stairs and play it. Apparently everyone had shown up just to hear that one song and seeing how it wasn’t played they were pissed on top of being pissed. So they went and played it, the song was Unguarded Moment.

He’s got a reputation for being a difficult guy eh. Sounds like you got him on a good night if he’s spinning yarns between songs.
