I don't think anyone criticising features are directing their frustratation at the builders. We all understand it is volunteer work and you are doing it on public land governed by Parks Vic.
As for making it one way that is not entirely a bad thing (as long as it's anti-clockwise). Most riders are OK and look ahead but there have been way too many clowns going the "wrong" way. I came acround the corner on Snipe track once and came face to face with a father pedalling up, with his young son sitting in a handlebar mounted seat facing forward... seriously WTF.
Yeah, I was halfway through my rant and starting thinking most people probably get that, but I was halfway through so it wasn't getting scrapped. Also some people don't get it, and do criticise the builders, and we get it from both sides too - "why didn't you make it bigger" & "why'd you make it so big?"
I partially agree with one way trails, there are some that should be officially made one way because common sense is apparently not so common (seriously, who would ride up snipe??). I disagree with the bulk of the main loop being made one way, any sections that are actually dangerous should be able to be made safer or sections of trail added. Like dog pound/humping hound - there was a descent that was dangerous to climb on a two way loop and it was made safe by adding an up trail nearby. And I personally think the loop makes more sense clockwise, this is unpopular but stuff it, I'm on a roll
My opinion aside, part of the deal with parks was for a bunch of new trails to be implemented first so people have a way to get to and from the outlying one way trails, this isn't happening first. Slapping a label on the trails as they are is going to cause people (like myself) to just ignore it. If I go out for a few laps of follow me/aneurysm I don't want to be stuck with a fire trail ride back when I've been riding these trails both ways since the dawn of time. Similarly, if I take the kiddos out for a ride and they want to call it early without doing a full lap the same thing applies. Bugger parks, I'm going rogue...
