Man Space / Bike Shed Layout

Nah, not staged, it gets messy when I'm working on stuff then I clean it off ready for the next job. This is now, working on a brake caliper so have parts everywhere. If you don't keep organised when working on stuff you lose parts or get them mixed up.

My yard on the other hand is an embarrassment!

What inspires more courage down the trails, better/bled brakes or beer?

All righty then...I'm in! Moved the last of my shit from storage yesterday. Naturally I hadn't remembered the layout correctly and things are tighter than I thought. The mega lounge is gone, it was as long as the garage is wide! I've got shit everywhere except for on the shelves and piled up. It's all going to fit nicely though. I'm working on 2 different floor plans, one with the bikes up right inspired by @scblack and the other using my current set up across the front of the garage. I'm not too sure I like all the bikes at the front like that every time I open the door...but I can't imagine the rest of the retirement village stealing them.

I shall report back in 3 years when I've organised the shed.

Get a wireless alarm system with 4G capability, will call/SMS you when it's set off. Self install, super easy.

Large dogs leave large turds...that's too much work. Last.dog had the savage as fuck thing well covered. Hopefully the next one is all cuddles!

Hmmmm...I think that kind of stuff just breeds more paranoia. Then if something does happen what good is it? By the time you or the cops get there the their will be long gone. Unless they pass out in the bathroom with your toothbrush collection jammed up their arse. It also takes a special kind of person to detain a thief without getting fucked up in the process so it's easier to reduce inclination by locking up and not advertising your gear, and of course having good insurance.

Poodle is in the top 3 for next dog. But that won't he for a while yet.

Aren't poodles known for humping your legs uncontrollably more than being good at security?

Humping the everything! The big ones are pretty good for security, being large and black. From memory the nrma had published something about the impact owning a dog has on reducing the likelihood of a break in. Any dog was a good start, with +big and +black adding a lot of extra points.

I'd like one with cams that I can view via the phone. Cam inside the garage, one inside the lounge room so you can see the kitchen and halway and a couple around the outside of the house. All recording to two separate locations with honeypot signals to......etc. So easy to go down the rabbit hole for me with this stuff.

And sadly if the gear ever actually gets put to use you'll be too far away to do anything about it.

YEs but you record it so you can pass on to the fascists.
I'm sure it is different for each state and even region, but even then I've not found the police to be terribly efficient at solving this kind of crime. This isn't to say "damn lazy cops" as the process is convoluted and difficult, with the risk of it all falling down in court on something minor. My workshop was broken into a few years ago (when I was running a youth centre) and a few bikes stolen. Within a few hours of discovering the incident I had all the names of the kids responsible, photos of a few of them with some of the stolen bikes, and I also had most of the bikes back. Every kid in town was lined up to dob them in and some knew where the bikes had been stashed. All before the cops even turned up to take a report. When they found out I had some of the bikes back they were all "case closed..." and it was only because I kept following it up that anything came of it.

Which was almost 2 years later. The only thing that tied it all together in the end was that one of the cops on patrol in the area had seen the kids in the town that night and made a note of having spoken to them, before they'd done the break in. Which they had known all along...none of my statement mattered. None of the evidence gathered mattered. The kids were only picked up after one of them was involved in an armed hold up (with a gun) of a servo in another town. They caught him because he posted the news story about the armed hold up on his Facebook page. Not the sharpest that one. They figured by then they had enough charges to lay to make it worthwhile. This is how the cop in charge of it all explained it to me when he called up (I'd given up caring by then) and asked if I was able to attend court. What an exciting day that was! Anyway juvenile crime is a bit trickier than adult crime.

In a similar situation a mate's bike was stolen from the garage at his office. They had CCTV footage of the thief undertaking the crimes required for this to happen and the police admitted knowing him etc when they attended the office. But...they did nothing.

Anyway if it give you guys peace of mind, cool. I just figure it opens the rabbit hole you were talking about...and suddenly you're living the Holy Mackerel dream.

Have a look at the ring stuff..... You can even interact with the would be thieves and tell them to fuck off :)

It just connects to your existing wifi and as long as you have phone reception where you are you can view it.

These are great, just installed a couple of the Ring Floodlight Cams over the weekend (Bunnings had them priced incorrectly on their website).
Awesome video quality and easy to sue software.
Hopefully Amazon doesn't screw them up now that they have purchased Ring

I have a shed project coming up & looking at bike storage options. Anyone seen these for sale? Yes, I've seen the steadyrack, & while it looks good it's expensive when you factor in the number of bikes & I have no need for the swinging action. I'd be happy to hear any first hand experience of the steadyrack but I would preffer a static bracket.

Enjoying an awesome home brew ale under lights!

A good mate who happens to be a sparky has kindly wired up two led baton lights, 3 double outlets and a circuit ready for an outside light. All wires fully encased in conduit and neatly done with these outlet purpose made to fit into the wall girts.

The batons are bright in their middle output, setting high beam would be brutal!

@stirk you never know when you'll need to X-ray your motor cycle.

I got busy in there this morning. Rang in a favour and took a load of unnecessary furniture to the Salvos. They scored (among other stuff) a nice rosewood dining table and sideboard set that belonged to my great grandmother. It was foisted upon me when the family divided up her estate in the usual ruthless and selfish fashion that happens when the matriarch of a large family dies. I didn't want it then (it was somehow very important to my grandmother and one of her sister's that I had it) and I don't have space for it now (after many years of using the dining g table as my fishing workbench). Some bargain hunter will have a restoration boner for sure. Anyway damn I've got some space here now! Will have to deliver on the "bring your bike over for a tune up" that I've thrown out to a few peeps soon.
