Motorcycle Thread - Post it all

I had almost that exact model Strom, God they are great bikes.

A heap of my mates are motorcycle tester/journalists who wrote for all the major moto rags back in the day (ha ha they are all old as fuck and retired now) … anyway back when I decided that I really had to stop with the warp factor nine riding… clip ons and knee down on the road had to stop … they all knew I loved my 90 degree v twins, and they all to a tee said … get a 650 VStrom, you will love it. And yep, as an old mans road bike it is fantastic.

And you are about the only one it seems - according to the sales figures
Hard to argue with a T7 when buying a new ADV bike.

I didn’t realise Yamaha had 25% market share last year, they’ve killed it. Aussies love blue bikes apparently.

About 15 years ago my riding group rode to Phillip island for the Moto GP. 10 of us rode over I think 8 were on V Stroms. First time we all went without someone's bike shitting itself halfway..

Best display I’ve seen in a while. Would love this in the garage

Had a wee-strom for a while but absolutely killed my hip pre-replacement so ended up selling it, I actually traded my cruiser for the Vstrom because the cruiser killed my back.
Currently looking at another bike so will be interesting to how things go now my hip has been upgraded to titanium.

It's difficult but when I take a bike for a test ride I want to go for a solid 1-2 hours. Most dealers want you to ride it around the block. A mate told me years ago (he was a bike salesman) they made bike seats feel as plush as possible for 30 minutes but uncomfortable after as most people never go for decent test rides.

Ha ha, good luck with that.

Me, I've been riding motorcycles since I was 8, which is over 60 years ago, dammit.

Now this is just my opinion, and opinions are like navels...

I'd personally rather gnaw my arm off than own a cruiser. I've ridden plenty of them, harleys and japanese wannabees... and yeah nah.

I am a v-twin guy though, with 90 degree single crankpin, being the preferred... so when I was looking for an old mans bike after a shitload of sports bikes... I went with an adventure bike... that never sees the dirt and has the fricken softest road tyres known to man on it. Besides putting a carbon can on it, I dropped the forks in the triple clamps to get it steer ha ha.

But, in the end, get what floats your boat.

Someone else suggested a V-strom, maybe I'll look at the 1000 version, I might be a bit big for the 650 (I'm 6'5 120kg). See enough of them around and never on the back of a ute.

Yeah, sounds like the 1000 is the go for you.

All my journo mates weren’t big fans of the early 1000’s. But apparently they got sorted. I’ll enquire with those that know.

From what I’ve heard the earlier models had the stator issues that a few bikes suffered from around that time, apparently not too big of a deal if you change it before failure, after that I believe they were pretty good engine, known for doing big mileage without fuss.

Ha ha, @cammas is on the money.

My ye olde moto journo oracle said …

“The 1000 Vstrom always had a flat spot, up until 2014. It was an easy fix, otherwise no issues apart from an occasional stator going out”

My biggest problem with my VStrom is getting my fricken leg over the seat. I actually have to stretch and limber up, before I get on, otherwise I have to suffer a groiny for the whole ride.

Yeah ADV bikes aren’t exactly low.

If I’ve got my tall seat on my F800 and it’s loaded up for a big trip with all the bags I’m using the stand to get off at the end of the day.

My last 4 bikes were adventure bikes, then I bought 2 road bikes with the usual 780mm seat height. It fills like I'm sitting so low..
Rode a friends R6 and it felt like a grom haha.

I’m tall, ADV bikes suit me. Not being able to look over the cars next to me feels weird when I’m on a normal road bike.

No bike updates but lots to come over the next month. Close to time to drag the trumpy out for summer.
Didn’t come home with any memorabilia from the gp this year.
Is new helmet day though. Saw this and had to have it.
First alpinestar helmet I’ve owned.

I like the look of the alpinestars but sadly I have a “Shoei Head” - which for a helmet tragic starts to get expensive - although did juts sell my Klim helmet I practically never used so could easily justify a 4th Shoei now :)

I nearly bought another shoei. I wanted this till I saw the alpinestar in the flesh.

You can’t put a price on your head. Sadly the days of a good 1k helmet have long gone.

alas I just bought a shoei Neotec 3 for my PI trip and it appears I don't have a Shoei hed. I might try a thinner liner (all sold out in Aust), ride in a helmet that causes me pain or replace it with a much cheaper option :(
