Motorcycle Thread - Post it all

Ultra Lord

Hurts. Requires Money. And is nerdy.
The kindest thing you can do for someone in the middle of a major rebuild is to throw in some extra nuts, bolts, washers, springs etc. Banjo fitting too if a carby rebuild is happening. I tried to rebuild a motorcycle gearbox without a manual. So many extra parts!
That’s better than tapping spanners together while somebody’s got their head in under the bonnet looking for a noise.

It’s together and it runs. I’ll probably find where the bolt came from friday afternoon when I pull it all apart again.
Unless it came from the bag I pulled the blinkers and horn out of?
Bugger it I’m tired.

I wish NSW had rec rego.

Decided to get another bike - Something rare for me I am going to go second hand - Will prob go Jap something as reliable and cheap to service - Something naked no bigger than 750 cc - Now to find the unicorn :)
Bought this 6 years ago, based on urgings from my motorcycle journalist mates... as they know I'm into 90 degree v-twins. Think it was about $5K, with only 14,000 on the clock, one owner. Did the windscreen mod, and put BattleAxes and a carbon pipe on it, and it has been great. They are tall tho.

Being who he is
Here's a laugh... one of the kids had put this on the fridge... I can't remember it at all.

Fred Gassit would have had a field day... Belstaff waxed cotton jacket, BMW systems helmet, Meddle boots and a fricken tank bag... have no idea where this pic is taken, as I rode that bike everywhere. The Tingate alloy mufflers sounded supreme. Even better than Contis or Termi's.

Pantah's rock, I think my brother could start his own museum of them as he's got about 3 or 4 in various states of disrepair.

Yeah I reckon something like that - i actually started thinking last night I used to have a Suzuki Bandit 1250s I adored riding - might try for a low KM version of one of them first too.

Absolute brilliant bike especially for our roads, had one for a while but mine was orange only reason I sold mine was it didn’t play well with my hip replacement. Actually regret selling it now as the hip has improved.
I had motos on and off most of my life, the memorable ones were a late 70’s GS750 that I sold to buy a van when child number 5 come along. A ZZR1100 absolute monster of a bike, commuting to work was always quick on that. So was the 85 GSXR750 with a full Remus exhaust and custom paint, those days I didn’t own car we just had the van for the family so rain, hail, snow or shine I rode and all times of the day, as I worked a rotating shift . Also had Yamaha 950 cruiser for a while but it killed my hip and back, still look now and then to get one; my boys want me to get one but that’s only so they can get their learners checky bastards, but that’s due to new Vic learner law.

Yep my moto journo mates raved about them, particularly the 650… and they were right. Just good at everything, not amazing… just quite good. Brakes are a bit soft, but I’m used to race brakes, so I ride according.., which rewards not being a maniac. The chassis is long but good, I dropped the forks to get it to steer, and it is pretty capable. I’ve been on some high country rides with journos on real serious bikes, and yeah, I had to make like a preying mantis… but we arrived at point B at the same time. And with the pipe it sounds good. Tall though, don’t pull up with your feet in a ditch.

What’s the Vic learner law…?

Yep agree I think the 650 is as my dad use to say ”powerful enough to get you out of trouble” and I found it was a good balance of weight/power, I also loved the big tank I could get a weeks worth of commuting if I didn’t ride it hard. The ride was smooth enough to ignore potholes or rough roads, perfect view for traffic and dickhead drivers.
My understanding is learners have to ride with a fully licensed rider for a certain amount of time.

That's a decent idea. I've been our riding with a mate and it's good to learn following lines etc.

Decided what the hell and bought a GPS for the bike - after last weekends ride some solo exploring feels like a better choice - Decided on the Garmin unit - Johnny Appleseed have them for $649 - random shops on the interwebs have them from around $588 but not shops I am used to dealing with - quick chat online with Johnny Appleseed and certainly sir I am just generating a discount code for you now :) - woot security of getting it from a renowned store.

Winton Raceway
wow… Winton.

How bizarre. I’m often wrong, but I have done hundreds of laps there, just ask my right collarbone. It is a right hander track. So I’m surprised that the left side of the tyre is so furry. Odd. He must have been really lighting it up in turn five, which is awesome btw,

Strange… I love Winton, but have never associated it with left side tyre destruction.

Plus times must have changed… well duh. As there wasn’t a garage in sight back in the day. It was a paddock.

Good job.

I'm guessing its the camera angle, the right side of the tyre will be well scrubbed :)
Loved Winton, those flat turns through the middle were always a challenge to do quick cleanly. Seen plenty of sleepy times through there.

Haha sorry, so I checked with him and the penny dropped when he said that tyre is off the bike and leaning against the shed wall so you're correct it's actually the right side. He says he went through 2 sets of pirelli Supercorsas. Lap times were 1:29:xx on his basically stock road going 08 R6. He might have dipped into 28s when he got a tow off the pros but wasn't timing every session just out for some fun.. Still a few seconds off race pace.
His mates son is the pro kid, Luke Power apparently an absolute beast on the bike and good kid who rides MTB aswell.

No worries, my mistake really, as looking again, it is obviously off the bike, and could be any side of the tyre.
