Heading up to ride epic tomorrow, a couple more questions I couldn't find the answer to...
We are hoping to catch the 9am shuttle but I couldn't get them on the phone today? Are bookings 100% essential??
Are there water stops along the way?

Easy and best option to start Delatite River trail is to take the Gang Gangs across from the end of Chamois Close. It's easy to get to from Cow Camp and rideable on a downhill bike without too much discomfort. If you had an all mountain bike you could start it up higher, there's a few more climbs.

If you're getting the shuttle the drivers are usually excellent sources of knowledge for the trails.
Should have said Goal Post Road, not Chamois Close. Rode it today. Delatite River Track is in good nick. Pinch flatted a tubeless minion this arvo. Watch the rocks.

100 % on weekends. I would give them a call in the morning just to be sure. They should be open at 8:00.
The best place for a water top up is at tbj which is just before half way after that there is not much.
At some stage they will prob go back to weekend shuttles only.

Talk to me about Abom....

So how rough is it?

My one bike quiver contains one 5.75" travel Devinci Dixon, currently with a 160mm fork.

Will I die?

I've taken it down some fairly rough stuff, Warby and various other downhill trails. Didn't die then.

Will I die?

Jokes aside, it kind of looks like the kind of trail that could be tackled at whatever speed you want, the faster you go the harder it gets, wrong?

Cheers.

I've got no complaints about riding Abom on a hardtail other than sore ankles, so a ~6" dually should be fine.

You're right, the faster you go the harder it gets.

I was riding the downhill trails on a 160mm travel bike for a few years. You get shaken up and spend a lot more time on the brakes. I bought a second hand Sunday. Riding them on that I'd say a lot less time on the brakes and more fun.

You've got nothing to lose by trying to ride the trails on an AM bike and with the changes Abom is somewhat smoother than it used to be. If you try it and don't like it go and hire a downhill bike.

I haven't ridden International but everything else is fine on any sort of dually, hardtails is pretty rough. After riding my DH bike and Enduro back to back there I'd even say the Enduro was faster but the DH is more forgiving and comfy on the rough bits.

I used to ride it on that Scott Genius of mine - absolutely hammered it down there no probs. Considerably smoother on the Nomad, but the Dixon would be fine.

It's exactly as you say - you could ride it on a rigid no problems, only you'd be going slower.

Was up there this weekend. This is Mike's pic of us hitting the pump track at night. Beautiful place.

Hey crew, does anyone know anything about the Mt Buller Mountain Running Festival which is on the weekend of 28 March - 29 March?

Wondering if there will be any closure to the mountain bike trails at all or if they will be in any way effected?

The running race is said to take in Mirimbah, Mt Buller, Mt Stirling and Craigs’s Hut so wanting to check on the access for mountain biking that weekend as a few of planning a trip down from Sydney.

Cheers!

Same, but up from Melb. Just found out there's a wedding taking up a whole lodge we were intending to stay at.

Trails better damn well not be affected.

Hi guys,

Klingsporn trail will be shut for most of the weekend (28-29 MAR) and Delatite River Trail will be shared use with runners in the race.

Bike Buller MTB festival is on this long weekend. Shit load of people and a shit load of trail closures. The lift will be running with minimal closures to the dh.
