Hey all,

Got this email from City Council. Seems the mtb survey and vision survey has been changed into this: (I've highlighted the important bits.) I guess it means if we don't go, mountainbiking might not be heard!

"Mt Coot-tha Future Plan update and invitation to Information Sessions

Welcome to those of you who are new subscribers to the Mt Coot-thaFuture Plan update. In our October 2009 update we said the next step for the Mt Coot-thaFuture Plan would be to hold a forum to look at consultation results andvision options.

We have replaced the proposed forum with a series of library workshop sessions around the city to ensure there are multiple opportunitiesacross the city for people to get involved. These are being held later this month running from 17/2/10 –28/2/10.

Please find attached an invitation from Cr Matic, Council's ChairmanEnvironment, Parks and Sustainability Committee, which details the timesand locations of the various sessions.

Next Steps

These sessions will complete the visioning stage of the communityengagement. Council will then write a draft vision document and seekyour feedback. We will let you know when this is available and how youcan provide feedback. I look forward to seeing you at a session.

RegardsFrances"

Here's the invitation

Bummer hey - the draft has been released - without a single mention of cycling, MTB or otherwise...

http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:...URL&utm_medium=stmcatch&utm_source=mtcoot-tha

People - lets respond to the draft - otherwise nothing is going to change... There is an online feedback form, linked from the above page...

The closest comments are:

"... facilities and varied options for recreation pursuits and unique leisure activities and experiences..."

This is where we need to focus feedback... Feedback is due Fri 11th June...

One of my answers was:

"...Mt Coot-tha has roads closely bordering the bushland both on the upper ridge, and at the base - making life difficult for fauna to move within the reserve and pass from the reserve into Brisbane Forest Park.

Speed limits (incl. speed limiting devices like speed bumps and other traffic calming), signage, barricades, animal underpasses and overpasses should be investigated.

Bicycle lanes should be installed in both lanes on Samuel Griffith Drive and the roads adjacent the base of the mountain such as the road passing by Gap Ck reserve carpark. This would encourage sustainable and environmentally friendly visitation by the public.
..."

Another:

"...Existing mountain bike tracks throughout the reserve should be maintained - thus encouraging visitation to the reserve in a sustainable and environmentally friendly means. This would be supported by a network of cycle lanes on Samuel Griffith Drive and surrounding roads...."
