MTB Trails in Batemans Bay & Mogo

I assume the rocks they're armouring the sides with will extend up that whole climb. Will end up looking more landscaped than natural I suppose, but the trails will cover a big area. I'm more interested in what they'll do with the rockier area, but I think they're leading with the big beamed jump lines that draw the punters in.
At huge expense.
Mogo is pretty good.

I went and checked out Mogo on the weekend.

The trail builders have done a pretty incredible job I have to say. The first phase which is now open is reasonably flow-trail focused, and spread over a big area. Although there's not a huge amount of elevation (I think they have around 150vm or so for this phase), there is a lot of trail, and some of the descents are surprisingly and satisfyingly long.

The network is well thought out, with three formal trail heads. Each of these serves one or two summits that have multiple descent options (green/blue/some blacks) off them, some that head back to that trail head, and others that head off toward the other trail heads. So you can choose to spend your visit sessioning a bunch of trails while never being too far from your car, or go off on an adventure to visit the different summits. I think this is a really smart use of the terrain on offer.

You can self-shuttle the Mogo Trig trailhead, but not the others. I don't think there's a commercial operator yet.

Signage is good, although there's a bit of a learning curve if you want to put together a loop moving between the trail heads. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

Trail ratings are probably on the easier side compared to Stromlo (of what I sampled anyway) since the terrain isn't hugely rocky on the Eastern side of the highway - however a lot of the trails run very, very fast so if you're cranking along the challenge does step up a bit. And I did have a stack on one of the blacks trails, so...

There's 70-80km of trail open so far, and I ran out of legs after around 30km/800vm or so (although the stack didn't help) - I reckon I only saw a quarter of what's on offer with a few repeats of climbing trails.

Next trails to open are the big jump lines. There's three coming (one for each skill level), and they all start at the same point looking west out over a valley - looks quite cool having all the starting gates next to each other with a great view behind.

The final stage to open at some point in 2025 is going to be on the other side of the highway, and the plan is for this to be a very different feel - I had a chat to Marcelo from Next Level and he called it "the Maulbrooks and Mt Wandera rugged and technical network to complement the flow of the Mogo area". Pic from out that way looks great:

So get down there and check it out - I'll certainly be back as soon as I can... there's so much to discover it'll take a few visits that's for sure.

One final thought, the builders have been really neat with their machinery as well, so there isn't the scorched earth effect on either side of the trail - lots of nice greenery to ride though - feels like an established network already, not something that needs time to recover from the work.

Marcelo and his crew do a great job with a lot of attention to detail. Need him to finish up in Mogo so I can get him for another job in Penguin.

the fox superflow event is at both the Mogo Trig and Botanical Gardens.

You can do both on separate days but I only have one day so a flip of the coin and I'll be riding the Trig section.

Hope its good.

Trig has the gnarlier black trails, Botanic gardens are a bit easier - but fun green and blue at both of those.

Just had a look at the trails they're using, you'll be fine. I rode pretty much all of them I think.

THere's just the one single black, Blindspot, which had a couple of steep downhill switchbacks and some fastish off camber stuff but otherwise pretty easy.

The blues and greens they've chosen are rippers, really fast and fun.

Return to event base via Next Level and Bad Dog is brilliant fun too.

@Tubbsy I just watched a video on Blindspot, even allowing for the Gopro effect I think I will be ok on that (famous last words)

If it's too hectic I will just set a time on it and then just play on the funner ones

No, not hectic. For the most part, IMO, the trail ratings reflect how fast you can go more than technical difficulty.
