MTB Trails in Batemans Bay & Mogo

Who cares about the trails, the real reason to go to Mogo Broulee is this absolute God tier beer 💪 🍻

Final morning in Mogo. Wanted to check out the new trails.

For some stupid reason I started out on Spicerack. Wow this is a hard trail. Take Colonel Senders put it on steroids. I took it easy rolled most of it, there are a lot of big step ups which I don't mind, only one madatory gap which I cased farken hard. I'm not ready for this trail, but it could be my favourite trail ever if I get good enough for it,. It is gnarly and spicy and goes on forever. I'm not convinced it is the jump line they've shown for yonks but I suppose it could be.

On the climb back up you basically follow the MASSIVE line of Final Destination - this is the biggest line I've seen. Some trruly horrendously big jumps. I can see Pilgs, Isted etc on this line. It was mind blowing. Could be the biggest in Oz I reckon. I didn't even want to roll this.

After speaking to a local sent Alice in Wanderaland - a nice long blue has a bit of everything though it crosses with another line and at the end I hit some almost vertical step up by mistake! The climb back up was horrendous maybe because it was my 5th day on the bike. Was absolutely knackered.

So feeling defeated hit Lightning, a fun green flow line into Flipping Pancakes another easy flowy track into the Skills Run ; which to be honest is a really fun way to get back down into the car park.

I heard the shuttles operate a bit differently and access a few different places so will definitely go back for a weekend.

All in all a great 4 day trip my quads (and arse) are cooked though 🤣

Interesting. All the riders I know are South coast or ACT based (so 2 hours away) and I don't know a single person who actually went.

All the usual suspects like Flow moped were hyping it up big time so it's always hard to tell...I'm also dubious based on the long term success of previous events in the area.
 
To be fair that wasn't the only reason. I had a project I wanted to finish that weekend as well.

I did genuinely almost go, but I'd want a decent ride as looking at stalls is only interesting for so long.

I wish them luck, and will make more of an effort if it returns.

I was considering going but I had other commitments. I personally know Marcelo Cardona, who's trail company Next Level Mountain Bike built the Mogo trails, so it would have been a good trip up there to check it all out. Hopefully it returns next year and I might make the trip over.
 
I thought about it, but to be quite honest nothing much of the actual event interested me. None of the bike brands I like were going to be there and there was not much else to check out frankly. The trails would have been chocka and some were closed for racing.

Now if there had have been some professional racing DH (impossible at Mogo) or enduro with dudes like Moi Moi and Booker or some slope style contest with FMB professionals (again highly unlikely unless a special course was built) yeah maybe that would have made a difference.

Overall it just sounded a bit boring, but maybe if I was fit and racing in some of the enduro events it would be different
 
Ultimately it is also a good thing for the communities near these new trail developments to have a bit of traffic and a buzz around the mtb investment.
 
I heard it was over rated but hey I wasn't there I was in Tassie waiting for the wind to stop.

Stredda they seemed to copy your Irontorathon event. Ps I think it should be called Bash a Penguin event.

Not sure the locals will go for the "Bash a Penguin" name. 😆

We have thrown the idea around a few times about having a MTB festival but we just don't have enough manpower to run one.
 
Actually Stredda you should copy the Grays Point MTB festival look at there format.

I was down at Sea Otter from a work perspective. And I must say, from that angle, it was bloody good! We got a LOT of traffic, certainly a shed-load more than we expected, and the overall vibe was incredibly good, both from the public attending, and the racers + entourage that came along. As an inaugural event, it definitely delivered.

It certainly wasn't without it's issues, both from the professional side and the racers/public side (such as the Enduro liason times being absolutely off the charts badly calculated... 16km/hr average anyone??? up hill!), but I think Rocky Trail have learnt a lot from this, and the next ones will only get better.

As people have said above, getting a higher class of event & the athletes to go along with it would be golden for RT, managing to tie in a National or International round, and getting lots of big names on site to bring people in from all over.

I also know Marcelo from the old days at Oxy, and the trails built under his guidance are indeed Next Level good. I managed to get out for some riding on each day before the event, with 6am starts to get back to the event hub for work a bit later. None of the trails were properly closed until racing started, so plenty of fun was had.

All in all I think it's a great thing for riding in the country, and with a few things done a bit differently and added to the mix, it will be a great festival as it builds.

If they put in a " Skid the further distance" event that would improve it alot.
