My tap won't stop running!

Hey guys, bit of a problem here...

I just filled up the bath, but when I turned the taps off, the water won't stop running!
What should I do?

I figured my options are:
- Call a 24/7 plumber.
- Turn off all water to the house.
- Plug the bath, and water the garden with the water.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

P.S. Please no "well you better go catch it" jokes. And yes, I have tightened both taps as much as possible.

..Turn off the main water supply and live without water til tomorrow?

Cheaper than a 24/7 plumber combined with all that water your now wasting!

I dont get it. Did you break off the knobs? Is it just dripping?

Alternativly, fill up a few bottles and shut off your mains for the night.

The tap has always dripped a tad. I filled up the bath. I turned off the tap. The water is now coming out quite fast.

How do I shut off the water main?

The thing in your front yard, that looks like pipe in the shape of a really wide U that has a gauge in the middle and a tap you can turn off...

I turned the big red lever, and it's still running...

Is that from pressure in the pipes? Will it stop soon enough?

Don't know anymore, can't offer any more help sorry :(

I know mine has an actual tap rather than a lever though...

Turn the meter off ...
Mate the big red lever is probably the gas.
Water meter will have a tap on it , my houses in SA, VIC and QLD all have.

Tomorrow go to the hardware shop and buy either a tap fixing kit or just the valve.
Me - I am mechanically RETARDED and I can fix a leaking tap.
Pull handle off - pull a small cap out the middle of the tap - remove the tap, use shifter to take the spindle out.
Pull off the leaky valve, replace with new one.
Use thread tape and don't over tighten ...

Done!!

Found a big green tap in the front yard, and that worked :)
Thanks for all your help, I'll definately get that tap fixing kit tomorrow.

I spose that's my daily 155L of water for the next week though :(
Thanks again guys!!

EDIT: Checked again, the red lever was the gas  the tap was still leaking hot water though?

Yay! - you made me laugh ....

I say just get the some valves and thread tape ... wind the thread tape on opposite to the thread, so when you wind the spindle on the tape tightens.

Don't buy the cheapest valves, they are all under $2 anyway ...

all the best ...

HAHAHA,

That happened to daniel when he tries to turn off the water in the shower. He was running around the house swearing. I laughed. There is a rubber ring where the water comes out in your bath tap. It would have broken so the water cant stop. Easy to fix. You just need the ring or you can get a plummer to do it.

P.S when are we going to go riding again? We all should go for another city sesh like last time. Just the people that went last time. Good times.

Cheers

SOOOOOOOO many times when i worked in a hardware store for 4 years we would have customers RUN in yelling TAPS LEAKIGN TAPS LEAKING TAPS POURING...

as indica, its gunna cost less then 2 bucks.
try to use a simliar style tap washer to what you had in tehre to start with. as in, tehre are a few types, easy on off (like a big half circle rubber thing), o ring (only have an o-ring around the edge), and normal (rubber, or fibro or leather disc).

basicaly what it does is, as you wind the tap, this "washer" closes the hole between the inlet and the outlet...

im going to say that your washer was extremly worn, and just "gave way" .. wouldnt be surpsried if you found pieces of it in the water!!

any way i replied to late to help any way, but i felt like typing.
