Mystic MTB - Bright

Rode Mystic a few weeks ago, end of May. Shuttles weren't running which was fine so I got a pedal in from town which was nice to warm up with.
Went to the top looking for Flow Mingo Start, ended up coming down Old English which was just to the right of the fence. Looked like lots of work being done up the top to finalize the logging.
Everything was running pretty sweet, even went across and did the older line of Up DJ and down DJ to check it out, still as fast as I remember it (met a nice forestry official as they missed taping off one part of the run after down DJ).

And only one dirt dig, which was miscalculating speed into a berm on Tombstone, just zoned out for a minute and took a dirt sample. Rode in a Fox Proframe which was the right choice at the end of the day, should've ridden the scouting lap but was too keen.

Saw the Ambos rock up on the way out, but seemed to be a meeting with the Elevation guys, so went on my way home (had the hoodie with the logo on, I assume it might've been your offsiders @dirtart, even saw them in the Bright Brewery for dinner) . All in all an awesome day out, $15 was alright for the variety of trails but a bit envious of those who lived just at the bottom of the hill and went for a coffee and met me back on the trail (retired life on ebikes looks pretty rad).
Will be good when there is a cafe or building we can just pop into down the bottom for a refreshment.

Interesting. I must have got lucky with being there just a week or two later and Flo Mingo was open. It's another good fun and fast trail and is a nice way to finish after hitting the top part of old English

Yeah they were just finishing up in that section of the park when I was there. Final day we left I think the utes were all over the other side and dusted for the year.
I still got to enjoy the bottom of it (that machine stuff feels so fast after coming down old English which still was a bit soft), I joined Flow mingo just after the ski seat so that was a good hit back into town.
Keen to get back when we get a chance but will probably be later in the year or same time next year.

Also if anyone has any accomodation recommendations for a couple, AirBnb, hotel etc, Bright/Beechworth/Yak - wouldn't mind checking out whats on offer.

IMPORTANT MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
Hello,

You are receiving this email as a rider who has held a previous membership and/or day pass at Mystic Park.

As you may be aware, Elevation Parks were recently awarded the contract to operate Mystic Park, and will transition into management on July 1, 2024. As the new park operators, Elevation Parks will be responsible for all trail management and new trail development, uplift services, park safety, and the approval and management of events and commercial operators.

Over the coming months, Elevation Parks will be undertaking significant trail maintenance, new trail development, signage works, and general park improvements. In late 2024, Elevation Parks plan to re-launch Mystic Park with a range of new trails, services, and facilities, including; bike school, café, bike rentals, and a range of new uplift options.

Elevation Parks has developed an updated membership program, with the new access passes now called a ‘Mountain Pass.’ The new membership program aims to streamline the membership process, while providing better value for local Alpine Shire riders and families. Key program changes include;
  • Move to a single annual renewal date of August 1
  • 25% discount for Alpine Shire residents
  • Change to make Mountain Pass fees inclusive in the Gravity Pass (Uplift) pricing (with Annual Mountain Pass holders to receive a Gravity Pass discount code for bookings)
  • Addition of a Premium Annual Mountain Pass to provide additional Gravity Pass discounting for frequent visitors (these passes have a limited availability)
  • Addition of an eMTB pass

New Mountain Passes are available right away, which includes a free extra month for members who sign up right away (all passes begin July 1 with an expiry August 1 2025). You can find out more about the new Annual Mountain Pass and get signed up here.

For those who want to ride the Uplift Service without holding an Annual Mountain Pass, there is no longer a need to purchase an Annual or single day Mountain Pass (previously Membership) in addition to your Gravity Pass. The Gravity Pass price includes a Mountain Pass for the inclusive day/s.

Should you have any questions or issues please do not hesitate to contact us via email [email protected]

Elevation Parks will also offer a range of Season Passes, including a Peak (October- March), Off Peak (April- September), and Full Year passes. A strictly limited number of passes will be released in year one, with those missing out on passes suggested to purchase a Premium Annual Mountain Pass. A release date for season passes will be announced shortly. A wait list for season passes is now live here.

We look forward to seeing you on the trails in Mystic Park soon!

Regards,

The Elevation Mystic Operations Team

Gravity season pass comparison in AUD and hours of operation per day:
Mystic - $995 - 6 hours
Maydena - $1200 - 6.5 hours
Boomerang - $895 - 7 hours
Queenstown Skyline - $920 - 9 hours
Whistler - $1000 - 10 hours
Leogang - $670 - 7.5 hours

Not quite as simple as that. Each venue has different operating days as well as a range of other variables. Mystic will be the same riding window/shuttle hours as Maydena, Maydena has a longer season when compared to the peak season pass at Mystic.

I have a family hive pass thingy for the four of us, would that become a gravity or mountain pass option?
Will both options be accepted for using the shuttle service?
Also, no email yet and nothing in the junk folder

Hey there,

Mountain Pass is the new membership pass. This provides pedal access and discounts off the uplift for members.

A Gravity Pass is an uplift pass, which is booked separately. Access fees are included in the Gravity Pass now, with members using discount code that will be sent to them soon.

If you haven’t received an email, send us an email to [email protected] unfortunately we can only use the member data provided to us- we can’t check memberships any other way at this stage.

If I read this correctly my family hive pass will become a "mountain pass".
This will not cover getting shuttles.
Is this correct?

You also have to factor in economics of scale when comparing Mystic to Whistler, Queenstown, Leogang, and even Maydena.

Totally, it's no easy feat to do what any of these parks do ... but from a consumer viewpoint (albeit quite narrow), I am paying X dollars for quality Y.
Main factors of quality (I understand this is subjective) for me are trail variety (flow/tech), difficulties, level of maintenance, total hours open for the day and queue times.

Currently Mystic falls noticeably short compared to the latter parks with the recent shuttle price hike which I mentioned in posts #92 and #116 here. To be fair, I may have ridden it at an awkward time of just post logging and in the middle of maintenance and opening new trails but since they got rid of paid self shuttles, I've always felt there's been a gap in what Mystic delivers compared to the others.

It's more than fair to say to me 'Don't like it? Don't ride it' but I'm sure operators value feedback.

That being said, I have no doubt DirtArt will improve upon it since Maydena has always delivered (on days its not pelting down ha) so that's a testament to their work.
Bring back Graveyard trail!

Can you expand on this? Maydena closes for winer and Mystic is open all year around as far as I'm aware (could have changed/be changing...). Are you more referring to Maydena running shuttles every day while open vs Mystic running shuttles only on weekends most of the time?

Thanks!

Maydena Has one season pass offering that is valid for nine months in a normal year. A peak season Mystic pass is valid for six months.

We are still finalising the season pass offering at Mystic, which is why it is open for EOI only at this stage the current pass validity period and pricing is still subject to change.

Thredbo, $699, 7.5 hours, and inclusions like chair use for walking or sightseeing, access to pool and gym, 20x bobsled rides, golf course access, tennis court hire, event discounts, bring a friend vouchers. Often 2x chairs running.

The thread by season pass is undeniably great value for money. Unfortunately without tens of millions of dollars of resort infrastructure in place, it is very hard to compete with an existing ski resort operation on pricing. what we can do is create an incredible Trail network that simply wouldn’t be possible in most Alpine environments, which is what we will be focusing on across the coming months.

Previous shuttle company.
$1150 season pass 12 months at bright, including Buller and falls in their riding seasons.
New shuttle company.
$995, 6 months peak season pass, ($695 through winter) at bright only or $1495 for 12 months at one destination..

Not sure how I feel about this.
Actually I do know......

Just wait till all the new tracks go in and go visit for a day of shuttles for $110, then a couple days of pedal ups once you work out which tracks you actually want to ride for $15 a pop, do it all again next year.
Or you can pedal your arse up all year for $100odd on a normal bike or a bit more for your moto.
