Neck Brace Suggestions

Hi guys,

I have recently been considering buying a neck brace for the added protection/sense of security whilst riding...however I'm not sure on what brace I should be looking at buying. I understand that Leatt are the top of the range, but I would prefer a more affordable option. Unfortunately I haven't had much success in finding up to date reviews on these options (e.g. EVS products). The reviews I was reading on this product were >3 years old so I wasn't sure whether they were reviewing an older product (most reviews were negative).

I'm not looking at starting a discussion/argument weighing up the pros & cons of neck braces in general as these are everywhere, however I would love to hear your reviews on what products you are currently using. I currently use a 661 comp helmet if this helps as I understand some braces don't have particularly good compatibility with certain helmets.

Thank you all who read this! Your help is much appreciated :)

Have a look on here: http://www.btosports.com/cs/search?q=Neck brace
The alpinestars and atlas braces are on there along with the Leatt mtb ones. I have a Leatt GPX pro and I think it's great but the Leatt 5.5, alpinestars and atlas braces all offer more movement if that's what you're looking for. You really can't go wrong with alpinestars, atlas and Leatt and they all have cheaper offerings as you can see on bto. Also, the Evs is there too and has some reviews like most of the braces http://www.btosports.com/p/EVS-2012-RFOUR-NECK-BRACE and the 661 helmet should fit all the neck braces no worries as long as you set them up properly

Hope this helps

i too have a leatt GPX Pro ,brought it early last year after a big couple stacks. took a couple rides to get used to it but now i don't even notice it, plenty of adjustments to get the right fit
i rode with a guy who had a Alpinestar brace, few years old and he hated it, clips broke uncomfortable etc etc
there newer aplinestars models seem to be popular

perhaps see if you can borrow one to test out of a fellow rider?
theres always the option of a 2nd hand one, they always pop up for sale on here so there is an option to save some $$

Leatt

If you can't get a higher end leatt just go with the lower end model. It has less adjustability but its still a proven brace. The price you pay for a price of equipment that can potentially save your neck is pretty darn cheap if you consider what its job it.

From what I have seen the other braces on the market have holes in their design that therapy doesn't.
Many people like them because they allow more range of movement.

Range of movement in a brace is not good. A compressive force is the most likely to cause a serious Injury and your spine only needs to compress less than 15mm for this to take place so there needs to be very little space between the brace and helmet.

Personally I find those who complain about vision probably don't have good trail skills anyway and are looking too far down and not up enough.
