So one of the most inspirational figures of our time passed away this morning at 95 years old. Sad day indeed.

95 years old and a massive amount of memories and legacies left for others to prosper from. Many people have him to thank for so much stuff. ;)

We are unlikely in our lifetime to see another like him.
I'd have to agree with that. I don't think there has been another person in our lifetime that has shown the determination, perseverance or belief in a cause that he did. All traits I admire in a person. I think what I admired most about him was that he remained fairly humble despite all he achieved.

One of my favourite quotes of all time came from him.

"It only seems impossible until it's done."

Rip Mandela. ..

You were able to bring equality and more importantly forgiveness to a country that this concept was foreign. He believed in true equality and not just trying to throw out those who oppressed him.

I tell you what though, I wouldn't want to be a white South African now. .. You are going to see a lot of turmoil now that he is gone (may not have been in power but everyone respected him)... maybe not quite as bad as Zimbabwe and the farms etc... but it's definitely not going to be fun.

I truly hope it stays safe and stable over there (as safe and stable as SA gets anyway).

Nelson Mandela is sitting at home watching TV and drinking a beer when he hears a knock at the door. When he opens it, he is confronted by a little Japanese man, clutching a clipboard and yelling, "You Sign! You sign!" Behind him is an enormous truck full of car exhausts.

Nelson is standing there in complete amazement, when the Japanese man starts to yell louder: "You sign! You sign!"

Nelson says to him, "Look, you've obviously got the wrong man", and shuts the door in his face.

The next day he hears a knock at the door again. When he opens it, the little Japanese is back with a huge truck of brake pads. He thrusts his clipboard under Nelson's nose, yelling, "You sign! You sign!"

Mr. Mandela is getting a bit hacked off by now, so he pushes the little Japanese man back, shouting: "Look, go away! You've got the wrong man! I don't want them!" Then he slams the door in his face again.

The following day, Nelson is resting, and late in the afternoon, he hears a knock on the door again. On opening it, there is the same little Japanese thrusting a clipboard under his nose, shouting, "You sign! You sign!"

Behind him are TWO very large trucks full of car parts. This time Nelson loses his temper completely, he picks up the little man by his shirt front and yells at him; "Look, I don't want these! Do you understand? You must have the wrong name! Who do you want to give these to?

The little Japanese man looks at him very puzzled, consults his clipboard and says...

(Get your Japanese accent ready...)

"You not Nissan Main Dealer?"

Do you think he just couldn't handle the excitement of Gran Turismo 6 being released today?

I've got a few South African friends who have said there's been a feeling in the air for a while now that an uprising is looming. It will be an interesting few months for sure.

South Africa has lots of problems but I can't see an uprising. An uprising against who? The majority is in power. There is huge inequality but the economic elite (who now include a growing black middle class) will not want the status quo changed.

Julius Malema and his ilk make a lot of noise but are increasingly marginalised.

The main danger for SA is a slow descent into corruption, lack of employment and the growing gap between the haves and the have nots.

We have a lot of South Africans at work, being in mining and all, and they were all saying the same thing this morning - that its basically Mandela that has been keeping Zuma in check and now that he is gone there is a chance for him to run amok, similar to Zimbabwe.

I've heard rumours that he died back in June and that they've only come forward now because it's the best time for it....

(Not sure if I believe it or not though).

RIP to a truly great person.

When imprisoned on Robben Island there was a power struggle for the leadership and future direction of the ANC. On one side was Govan Mbeki who wanted to nationalise state assets, put the former leaders of apartheid on trial, and establish a socialist state on the southern tip of Africa. Thankfully Mandela was able to convince others of a more moderate path.

As for being a terrorist - well yes he was convicted for terrorism. You could argue that he did not exactly get a fair trial.

Anyway - he blew up a few electricity pylons. After several hundred years of oppression I think his restraint was quite admirable.

You need a history lesson champ.

Really?

He was head of the ANC terrorist wing UmKhonto we Sizwe (MK) and the South African Communist Party. He pleaded guilty to 156 acts of public violence including mobilizing terrorist bombing campaigns which planted bombs in public places including the Johannesburg railway station! So yes, many innocent people including woman and children were killed by Mandellas MK Terrorists.

South African President P.W. Botha on a number of occasions offered Mandella freedom from prison if he renounced terror violence, but your "freedom fighter" refused to do so.

But its OK, it just shows me how well Pavlovian Mind Control has set.

And so many Black South Africans were killed for nothing more than being black. the white population was living in a nice bubble they didnt want change (Shit some are still living in their White Africa), sometimes it takes drastic action to cause effect.

If i was in that position i would have blown up more than a railway station.

I wont pretend to be well informed on this matter but I do have a friend who passionately shares your veiw.
He has explained it before but its all hazy, im not fussed anyway. You're not alone on that one though

Having said that bringing out statements like that on a public forum is a dead end, people dont forget what people say in these places.
and you dont want any E - enemies either.

Anyone else notice how Paul Walkers death coincided with Mandelas? they're watching you

LOL

All of the defendants at the Rivonia Trial pleaded not guilty. uMkhonto we Sizwe had a strict policy of only attacking infrastructure.

The bomb at Johannesburg station happened after Mandela was imprisoned and was done by a white bloke who was not a member of the ANC.

Nelson Mandela _may_ have been a member of the SACP for a time. So what?

P.W Botha - the 'groot krokodil' (big crocodile) - is this the same guy who was accused gross violations of human rights during the TRC hearings? Or the one who had thousands of people jailed, tortured and killed?

I might be showing my Pavlovian mindset but you are showing your ignorance. Go have another kool aid.
