New AM wheel set help

I've had good experiences with Mavic Crossmax SX wheels and Shimano XT and XTR Trail wheelsets.

+1

I have a set of Crossmax SX on my beast and smashed it down Thredbo last week without an issue with a 105KG boy on there..

They look sick as well..

spank oozy evo wheelset

Anyone tried the spank oozy EVO wheelset? Gets good reviews on bikeradar and vitalmtb not too heavy or pricey either

2 days on thredders flow track n my havens are still holding up well! hubs are still in good nick... will keep an eye on em!

Syntace wheels have been mentioned a few times, good thing is they are wide and light, and use standard spokes and nipples. RRP in Australia is 1299 so also within the mentioned budget. But you have no colour options... and could argue they look bland... or maybe just stealth?

Spank was mentioned above, I run the Spank Spikes in the Liteville 901 laced to Tune hubs and they have been great rims ... cheap here in Oz too... Hope it helps.

I have been looking at the Syntace wheels for an AM setup but it has been hard to find any rider reviews. Anyone been using these and able to give some feedback?

I've been riding w35's for about 6 months and they've been faultless to date. A friend of mine who weighs 95kg has been on them for about 9 months; he put 1 ding in the rear rim a few months back when he cased a rock, but straightened it out and it's been fine; never lost air or anything. I think they're probably the best wheels on the market for the price. :)

I've been riding some American Classic 29ers (All Mountain) for the last 2 months now. Well under $1K, about 1750grams. Not too bad for a strong set of wheels.

The 2 best things about these wheels are...

1) No truing needed. My last set of XTR always needed truing. Then again, they were 'race' wheels.
2) They have a 24mm internal width. Not 19mm or 21mm like most. In a straight line, I can't notice a difference at all, but when you lean the bike over into a corner - the magic starts! No tyre roll, just grip. ;)

And lastly, they are compatible with almost anything except a 20mm front. XX1? 142x12? 135x9? 15mm or 9mmQR front? Just have to get the right kit to adjust.

Thanks Wiffle, not many have said much about these wheels. I am unsure on the 30's or 35's as yet for a 150-160mm AM/Enduro setup, just unsure on the amount of rolling resistance (for climbs) v strength/grip for going down with possible damage as mentioned with dings.

Go the 35's for sure, if not even the 40's; every extra mm wide is worth it's weight in gold. You won't be sorry once you get used to the grip of 20psi! :)

American classic am wheel set. The cheapest, lightest, most durable wheelset in Australia. (Other than custom builds)
Awesome wheels. Did I say light?

Nope - that would be Hope Hoops Flow Ex (got mine for $350 for both ends).

American classics are not cheap (but awesome)
