Currently doing my research for NBD, want to go gearbox this time around so looking at Nicolai ION G16 GPI and Zerode Taniwha. Does anyone else have suggestions for a 150-160mm trail bike with Pinion mount that I should be looking at?

There's the Instinctiv bikes, if you can get past that instinctive need to vomit any time you look at the thing or contemplate how cringeworthy the name is:

(Though if you are going to buy one, please order a spare trigger shifter - I will buy it off you!)

Also, feel free to e-mail Nicolai and ask them if they're going to make a Saturn 16 GPI. When I asked the response was underwhelming to say the least...

"We are working on something but this is not our top priority project. therefore i can not give you a date.

Maybe this fall, maybe next year, 2 years... we do not know
"

I’m on a VHP16 (sans gearbox) and I love it

It's Not Easy Being Green
Do you have a budget?

You could have a look at the local option, but it's very pricey! $9,000 frame only... The Trinity... https://www.trinitymtb.com/gravity

There's also a few other options popping up.

The Kavenz which looks like it's almost ready, but no belt drive... https://kavenz.com/blog/gwagon

Gamux Sego FR, again looks like it's coming soon...

That's all I can remember at the moment, but I think there's a few more...

Down on the left!
More travel than you’re after but Starling make a steel 170mm gearbox bike.
I think Marino do frames with a pinion mount too if you wanted to roll the dice.

I did see these on the Pinion site and promptly concluded that my gag reflex isn’t strong enough to handle that.

Cheers, I'll definitely take a look! Would prefer belt drive but a chain isn't a deal breaker. I've put plenty of kms on the fatbike which is still chain drive and the maintenance on that is tolerable.

No budget per se, I'd like to look at everything available and make financially unsound decisions. You've provided some good options.

More travel is okay, steel might end up a bit chonky on the scales but I'll have a look. Not sure I'm willing to run the Marino et all gambit on this one.

This is a proto but they have a little guide taking the chain around the chainstay pivot.

I had seen that previously, but had missed the idler at the chainstay/seatstay pivot and thought it was just dragging over a wear-block. That'll work. Now I wonder if they'll make the gearbox kit compatible with the rumoured longer chainstays...

They quoted a few months ago around September for the gearbox and longer chainstay to be available to order at the same time.
