Hi All,

Just got back into riding this year after 12yrs away from it, Have a roadie & fixed gear at the moment. I'm looking to buy my first "real" mountain bike in the next month or so, still deciding what bike I should get though.

Hi all
A friend recomended the forum to me as im getting back in to mountain biking after 4 or 5 years off the bike :)

how things have changed i remember a decent set of disk brakes were around $1,000 as a min! and 100mm of travel was considered a lot! lol

G'day everyone,
I started to ride downhill about a year ago and even though I seem to be more on the ground than on my bike, I f.ing love it. I own a Scott Voltage FR and now I want to get a DJ bike and try that out.
I live in Kensington in Sydney, and without a car it's a bitch to go to any of the trails.
Anyone from around my area that rides DH?
Cheers,
Taner

G'Day!

G'day all! I came across this site whilst wasting my time away here in not so sunny West Wales in the UK

I've been mountain biking since I can ride, which is back in the 60s and well before mountain biking had grown a name...

I ride a PACE RC250T trails bike that I've converted to cross country and love to blow modern bikers away, with their 5" of travel front and rear on the downhills with my mighty 45mm of travel on my front forks and VERY rigid back end; why do so many of these younger riders have no idea how to 'float'...?! :eyebrows:

I'm building a 1998 Klein with the money from the 1990s Bianchi that I've just finished and sold. I won't know whether this will be a 'build and sell' or a 'keeper' until I ride it; the PACE is going NOWHERE! I've spent too long trying to find one and this build has also taken over 2 1/2 years and is STILL not as I'd like it...

I'll post some pics up when I'm next on here or after I've finished my cuppa! :tea:

Go Light!

G'day,

If there's one piece of advice I can give you, it's go light!

You can always upgrade the components as they wear out or break but you can't upgrade the frame...

Either buy a good quality second hand bike from places like this website or bite the bullet and spend BIG (within reason of course...)

And of course, buy a bike that matches where you're going to ride and what you're going to ride i.e. there's no good in buying 6" of travel and downhill suspension set-up if you're riding smooth paths or have to ride uphill...

Anyway, welcome to the sport

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I've been chatting with a few people now and they all seem to give me the same info which is good. I'm looking at a Trance X1 second hander at the moment, so hopefully it checks out and I can get amongst it. Thanks again :)

Hi, just touching base with this great site. Have been on MTBR for a while and then a fellow rider on the trails recomended this site. So here I am.

Hi,

I've spent the last few days browsing this site and thought i should join.

i've been riding a roadbike the last 12mths and just recently got into off-road again.

i have a 2010 orbea alma s50, which got me hooked again on off-road riding, and i've just bought a new, 2011 reign x0. now the orbea is being sold!

thanks for the help the site's already given me. hopefully i can return the favour soon.

New to the forum and mtb, I've been doing a bit of XC and beginner downhill. Just got a place close to Stromlo which got me into it.

G'day, i'm new here so chucking our a introduction. My name is Dale, haven't ridden my bike in a long time and thought its time to get some kind of fitness back so have started to get back into it.

Previous ride to this was a 2002 (I think) Giant Rincon, broke the frame so built up this bike myself from the left overs a couple of years ago.

Its a late 90's (I think) Parkpre frame, not sure what model. At the moment the rear wheel is giving me the shit as the rim OD is 3mm less than most other rims which is giving me shocking bead seating problems, bead keeps popping out and wrecking the tyre, toying up what to do, either try to find some tight fitting tyres or something else. Dont want to spend any $$ on it as they are $$ I could put towards a newer second hand bike.

It is good fun to ride though, 100mm fork, slack head angle, narrow bars, quite stable and once it starts to turn you can really lean it and since its so short it pops the front up REALLY easy.

Hi all,

Have relocated to the Sunshine Coast. Grew up mountain biking in Rotorua and have recently been riding downhill trails in Whistler and Queenstown. Weapon of choice at the moment is a Mongoose Teocali Elite, but have been lucky enough to have owned a Giant Reign1, Reign X1, Faith 1 and also a Norco A-Line. Looking for some sweet flowy dh trails in the area so if you know any, let me know! Hennessey's Hill in Beerburrum is a bit of fun but it would be nice to have a bit more variety!

Hi all

Hi everyone
I'm new to mtbing, trying to sell my mx bike to buy a dual suspension bike.
I bought a GT Chucker 2.0 from a garage sale for $200, so i've been playing on that out the mt taylor dh track in bairnsdale vic.
So far i've loved every second of it. Looking at getting something like a Reign or remedy just to try a bit of everything to start off with.
gonna give the local dh race a go in a few weeks and maybe the alpine gravity shuttle in bright.
I've already met some great people on the track and hope to meet more.

Cheers Casper.
