New Helmet Star Rating by Transport NSW

Isildur

The Real Pedant
Saw this today, interesting that 1 is "meets standards" and everything else is above. Especially things like the Fox Proframe, rated as a 5 star, but from personal experience is very fragile, cracks from a soft breeze, and can cut foreheads in actual crashes... While the Spec Camber, which has a pretty good setup from what I've seen, gets a lowly 1 star.

Thoughts?

Surely the guy / guyette who scribbled those findings wears a Sea Shephard jumper while fishing? That is some bogus shit. Without digging deeply into it; they're saying a half lid has the same 5 star safety rating as a full face. :D Are they only testing how well it repels the abuse of motorists?

Defending against seagull shit.

Read it and you will understand why they both have a 5.
and BTW lots of fisherfolk support Sea Shephard. Sea Shepard are against fishing practices that fuck fisheries they aren't against fishing.

Righto Captain Serious
You show me a person wearing a Sea Shephard jumper that actually gives a fuck about the ocean and isn't purely doing it to get likes on Instagram and I'll stop laughing at their fashion choices.

Another comment with NFI.

Seems most offer great protection with the only downfall of a couple, the fact the retention strap stretched more than 35mm in that test. Giving an automatic 1 star.
This was the case with your spec example and also the poor result of the bell full face.

can we buy foreign tested helmets yet like motorcycle riders can?
should be able to now, but local dist are slow, and OS shops don't seem to know yet... (eg IXS trigger FF)

so the Bell basically fails because the retention system is too stretchy? but is awesome at high speed/sharp impact? (it scored basically 75/100, but got rated as 29/100 cos of straps)

Well, I appreciate your thread for the reasons you posted it! :)

The automatic 1 star in quite a few of the helmets actually comes from the male clip on the strap not being permanent ... as in even though its doubled through the strap itself you can actually remove it with a bit of effort .. ( me .. I would have thought thats a good thing given the clip itself can wear or get damaged and you can actually replace it without replacing the complete helmet ..... )
And ... funnily enough .. ( In our situation completely unknown to us that there was this little exercise taking place..) ( re TSG Helmets ) they tested a skate specific helmet which actually differs from our Australian Standard version....

can we buy foreign tested helmets yet like motorcycle riders can?

Only 2 States have adopted and updated legislation at this point .... ( It's the States that make the rule and to whats legal on the road ) So it depends where you are as to if having a non AU certified helmet is actually legal at this point .... clear as mud right ......
