New Helmet time - Mips or no Mpis

Does it actually fit though? MIPS will move around a little I find, but not to a degree I notice it or more importantly to a point where its not optimally positioned on my noggin... If its moving that much, that suggests to my its an ill fitting helmet, irrespective of MIPS or not.
ive tried it in two sizes, still the same. I'm not convinced with MIPS.

By fit I mean not the size, it might just be your particular noggin shape doesn't play well with that brand. Try some others.

I struggled for years, Bell was ok, Limar was the best I could find before Giant started selling helmets. Wasnt just because I was wanting matching lids for the Defy and the Trance...

I use a bell sixer MIPs now and its the most comfortable helmet I've used. Broken two MIPs equipped helmets (bell and a giro) in the last couple of years and thats given me confidence to keep getting MIPS lids (I crash without putting my hands out it seems these days which is fkn weird). No head injuries, but broken collarbones, ribs and punctured lungs.

BELL always fitted me good in over 20 yrs of riding bikes and racing. 661 and 7 iDP seem to fit me much better now.

I recently tried on a few open face mips helmets TLD, 100%, BELL, GIRO, & MET just to see how the fit was compared to the Alpinestars I currently wear (& the Specialised before that).
The MET Roam provided by far the best fit for my melon & at $100 off retail it has now replaced the Alpinestars. I like the minimal padding in the MET as it makes it feel more fitted and tends to hold less sweat.

It’s hard to say which is better, MIPS or not… you can’t go back and repeat binning it with the other helmet on and see how it went. But a few years ago, I had a good go at it, and completely demolished a non MIPS Specialized lid, fracturing my skull, and few other sundry bits and bobs at the same time.

I wear a Bontrager Rally MIPS now, and I’m pretty sure it’s a much better helmet than what I was wearing, and I’m guessing it and its MIPS, would have done a better job of saving my scone. It may have just moved more impact to other parts of my body, as at the time, the most severe pain was from my neck, and I thought I had broken it, but who can say what goes down, when it goes randomly pear shaped.

Anyway, I love my MIPS helmet and every lid from now on will be MIPS.

I’ve just ordered my first MIPS...only because that’s all I could get through LBS in a Speedframe. Cussing helmet is worth more than all my oranges.
Only ever cracked one helmet in 20+ years of MTB. Bet I crack this one in a week.

This is likely. I've only been smashing helmets since i started buying expensive ones...

One point to consider if you are going from non-MIPS to MIPS: every manufacturer I’ve seen so far builds the extra layer into the existing shell. That means you give up real estate where you bonce goes.

That’s an issue if you’re at the upper limit of your current helmet. Being at the upper limit of medium helmets means I go to L/XL territory and sometimes that’s way too big and tightened as far as it can go. Not a deal breaker. Just a consideration.

Like most I have never found MIPS helmets comfy. TLD A2 and Fox. I changed to a Leatt DBX 3.0 which has their own Turbine system. Comfiest helmet I have ever owned and breathes well. There are a number of other systems that work similar but don't sacrifice the fit like MIPS does.

My limited (2) experience with MIPS is that they are also noisy, at least in FF’s, while they move around during riding.

Have a Giro Disciple (FF) and Bell Super DH (Convertible) ... can safely say that my strava times went down

They fit well and haven't noticed noise with MIPS ... probably because the 'avoid that tree .. why are you still looking at it? .. son of a' thoughts in my head are pretty loud

I've no comfort or noise issues with my MIPS Bontrager... it fits my head great, and is all good... but I'm probably, ok definitely, not as rad to the power of max as youse. But I'm pretty confident the attached photo would never have happened, if I'd been MIPS equipped at the time.

Here's a pic that might give you a laugh... this was a long time ago now, back when my two youngest were precocious teens, and clearly very worried about my fractured skull, broken/dislocated finger, hyper extended torn neck muscles, ruptured supraspinatus, torn rotator cuff and contusion city... not to mention my buggered Mariner.
