Hi Guys, new to the forum, looking for a bit of a double check on what I plan to do and if I've missed anything. I have a 2017 Merida Big Nine 100 with Shimano Alivo gearing and a FH-TX505 freehub. It's currrently 3x9 giving ratio's of 0.71 -3.98. I want to upgrade to 1x10 and believe I'll get 0.83 - 3.19. I plan to buy and install the following to make this work;

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Shimano...itm=263431985649&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RACEFAC...122942400230?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10

Can I get someone who knows what they are doing to confirm this will work, mainly that the deore groupset will fit on the above freehub. As well as confirmation that the chainring will fit on the existing crank setup, will I need spacers for the chainline? Do I need anything else to do this. Bike specs are below;

Shimano 8/9/10/11sp all run on same freehub.
Go 1x11. No dearer, more gearer. Wiggle and Merlin have good prices of late.

What Moorey said!

Look around for slx 7000 components. Best bang for your buck

I think wiggle has slx shifter/cassette/chain/mech for about $200 delivered. Just watch your mount for the shifter. You'll need bar mount as opposed to any of the ispec mounts, unless changing your brakes to same ispec.

Actually....doesn’t the bike have the shifter/brake pods? If so...You have to get new brakes if you’re changing shifters....

If...

Thanks Moorey, you really saved my ass here, current set up is both the shifters and brake levers band-on mounts, with m6000 or m7000 they will both be Ispec mounts, so I'll have to upgrade the brake lever to the compatible Ispec mount at the same time. I was trying to keep things simple, seems that's not an option. Glad I posted here before ordering, didn't even consider the mounts. Really am a newbie. What do you think a bike shop would charge to do this?

Pity the Merlin special has finished. Recently bought a mate the m7000 with full drivetrain, brakes and cranks for $440. They’re back well over $500 now.

SRAM uses a different freehub to Shimano so unless you want to change that best to stick with Shimano.

It's best to have a clutched derailleur and you'll not need a chain guide with NW rings.

In Shimano world shadow plus derailleurs are clutched.

Best you save up and replace all the drivetrain and brakes with slx. Sell the old stuff to recoup some cash, not much though based on the spec.

You'll really notice the performance improvement over what you currently have.

The PG cassette in above groupset is meant to be compatible with Shimano hub, that's why it starts from 11 not 10, at least that's as far as I can tell looking online. But then I very nearly stuffed everything up with my first attempt :). This is a specifically designed 1x11 groupset, I would have thought the derailleur would hold the chain in this case but it doesn't reference clutch. Not sure about this, but at worst don't I just run a simple guide on chainring. I really hate my current front derailleur so need to change.

Nx uses a standard freehub, the cassette is 11-42, gx upwards is on xd
Derailleur is clutched, so if you get a narrow wide ring you shouldn't need a guide

Found this on ebay, for same price I can go with Sunrace 11-46T cassette, also fits standard Shimano hub, this will give me 0.76 - 3.19, almost covering my existing ratio's, shifter is the same (on bar) which is the important part for me, just have to lower the derailleur to clear the largest cog. Have I missed anything, any reason this would not work with my bike? Think this is what I'll go with.

The different freewheel body is only needed for cassettes that use a 10T top gear. NX has a standard 11T gear, so fits on a standard Shimano-pattern hub.
