Newly Released eBikes and eComponents General

It is those fat approaching vertical looking downtubes. There isn't much that can be done to make that design choice look pretty.

Its nearly like they had 'must have' boxes to tick, 2 of them being -
  • Battery must be removable
  • Must fit 2 water bottles
Then shaped the bike around them. Not an aesthetically pleasing bike at all.

One bottle would have been fine and like a lot of others, motor removal to slide out the battery or side removal instead of the pregnant-hunchback look.

Cabling routing is also awful. After the awesome gutter on their other bikes the cable loops all over the place. I do like the modular dropouts. Maybe an email to Ben at Deviate to re-think the looks :p

The hidden in plain sight external is awesome, so easy to route cables.

I see Deviate is answering some comments on the PB link, though hasn't replied to the hideous or ugly comments yet 🤣

Yes, it is function over form and I should get my grumbling to get on that side.

I'm sure it works better than it looks but, geeez, I hope this trend somehow goes away. It might need to be balanced with some needless CNC alloy bits and Ti to level the beauty scales again

IMO 100% of full power eeeebs are ugly AF. This is not the worst looking one I've seen.

This Orbea looks nicer than most of them (although couldn't that brace thing have been parallel to the TT?).

But yeah, like the early awkward 29er days, fast forward another five years and everything will start looking a lot better.

The Amflow looks acceptable too, if a bit generic.

California, first to close the boost/peak power loophole.

Also, DJI released a new update a couple of days ago and when unsuspecting owners installed the update, it took away the regional option that was there. This allowed people with 25kph restricted countries to select a different country to unlock their max speed. Selecting USA simply gave you 32kph but some reported that selecting a certain country unlocked commuter speed of 45kph.
Amflow community not happy :)

Holy shit! People will have to pedal a bit.

Yeah not a bad thing to start reining in the silly emtbikes.
Friends has an Amflow, injured doing a mono.
People dont need that much power.
Its likely that too much power on the ascent will hasten the deterioration of singletrack.
Our area has changed remarkably since being built going from smooth to rocky and rooty.
soon some roots on tight switchbacks uphill will go.

I'm support any proper power limit. The "continuous power" limit was very vague and never really seemed to be followed. You just can't keep going with more and more power otherwise you'll may as well just buy a dirt bike.
I think the current crop of full powered Ebikes have plenty enough power for MTB trails.
