I can’t stress this enough (at least in my experience), the bigger and scarier the pins, the safer the shins*

*obviously in conjunction with good shoes.
Except when they’re a native clipless rider going to flats and they try and lift up with the feet on a jump. Then those shins are gonna die.

#2 son had his first experience with the joy of 8mm pin to the shin last night - of course it was after the ride on the way home where he slipped a pedal jumping of a curb. Light scratch in one part but a perfect m4 bolt sized hole punched in the shin further along. After much rolling on the ground outside a random house - he jumped back on and we eventually made it home. He still enjoyed the ride.
