Night rides - Sydney area

Have decided to keep my HIDs so thought I may as well use them.

Looking for those that like it in the Dark ...

The Good News:
- I'm well equipped ... I also have lights :D
- I can pretty much drive anywhere (although prolly prefer to keep it northern beaches or the occassional Shire jaunt during the working week)
- Can do Friday nights (as I have no life) ... further from home ... but depends
- happy to give a fellow farker from the Innerwest a lift (Lilyfield is home) or if your on the way to the trail head.
- I also have spare lights (halogens) so happy to lend some out (First in, First not riding by the moon).
- Happy to do some DH ... man that would be freaky ... but prolly better to keep it XC or All mountain.
- Depending on whether I'm lending out lights, I've got pretty good burn time (read: I have plenty of batteries for the Halogens) ... so ride length depends on how much sleep we want before going to work the next day.
- For the Innerwest boys that may want to train ... I'm also happy to do some road/bike track work around the Bay Run (prolly better for those that live nearby ... eg, Glebe, Drumoyne(sp), Ashfield, Liechardht(sp), Balmain etc etc, but would prefer to hit dirt.

The Bad News:
- Has to be a late Start ... I won't be able to leave home before 7.30pm most nights so this kinda means pedalling at most trails no earlier then 8.30 - 9pm. (read: kids)
- Prolly sporadic rides at first ... and then as I convince my wife that these rides don't count towards the number of weekends she gets away from the kids in return for me riding, then it should become more regular (maybe twice weekly ... maybe say Tuesday / Thursday)
- I get really freaked when the batteries die and I start getting X-files visions (beware)
- I can't really be spontaneous with these rides coz of the kids, so will always need a little bit of warning (couple days) prior to each ride.

Suggested tracks
Lindfield (quick blatt)
MD (until the batteries die)
RedHills (FR mayhem on 4WD track) works well as a two car shuttle
I've never been to Terry Hills so keen for some exploration
Locus Hts, RNP or similar down south
Lanecove (haven't been in years)
Oatley ... not sure if its legal or worth it.

On a weekend (read Friday or Saturday night)
Anywhere up the Blue Mountains

PACE: I'm not the fitess bugger, and would prefer technical trails ... but happy to spin ... so I can keep up with the Whippets on the weekend. Don't expect much and we should be right.

Let me know if your interested ... PM or post

*edits ... first ride details page 3 (post #24)

Not sure if you know or care but The Royal NP (and probably others) are closed to the public at sunset.

I think Oatley isn't legal anymore and wasn't really ever terribly worth it.... from what I can gather it was just a place to ride when you couldn't get anywhere else. Shame be a great place for a bit of legal track.

If you are coming up the mountains I might be up for a night ride.... just be bloody cold in winter.

The only nightrides I manage to get in are along the m7 cycleway. Maxwolfie and I hit up a fitness XC ride. Leyton and I manage to street it up a bit jumping off the bus lane barriers. Other than that Im scared of the dark.

Not up for dirt riding right now but if you decide to cruise the inner west paths at night I'll join in, am not far west of the Bay Run. Getting out to Homebush is quite pleasant in the dark too. My fitness is abominable right now so it'd be more cruisy socialising away from the pub.
Speaking of which, you're welcome to join my regular drunken rides home from the city in the late night/early morning most weekends - it gets pretty technical when your senses are impaired ;)

This could be good to get some guys up here in the mountains, even the crappier tracks are great at night,JP will agree that a ride at our newly formed grose head south on a saturday night is a beauty, also, the oaks of a night is a screamer, now that them there 8 legged mongrels have stopped spanning our tracks,There are plenty of options!
Nerf,if you want,Jp and myself,or yourself can get something happening!
Let us know!

Snaking is when u go into the bush either at night or during the day and look for snakes to catch its great fun.

Interesting. I'm going out on a limb here and assuming you're a young fella. By all means come up the mountains and enjoy riding but please leave all flora and fauna alone.

I understand you may idolise Steve Irwin and you may want to show your friends that you're a big game hunter but removing any thing from the bush, with the exceptions of weeds and rubbish, is a big no-no. Especially in a National Park, of which there is some at Winmalee. If you get caught by the NPWS they will fine your arse. If you get caught by me or some of the people I ride with the penalty will be much harsher.

Having said that I have a tiger snake that roams around the vicinity of our back yard. If you reckon you have what it takes, wait until the middle of summer and you can come up and have a crack at him. I'll even film it.

Have a good weekend.

settle people i never said anything about taking them home. im well aware of the rules in the national parks and would never hurt or kill a animal purposely. as lunchbox knows as we almost had a run in with a duck when we were riding next to a river bank when a small duckling came running out of nowhere and was about 2cm away from being under my front wheel. have u know we rescued that duck as it was lost from its mother and we gave it to a lady that said the mother was in her yard that day and she would keep it out back too see if the mother returned. she contacted wires which is a animal organisation which told her that the mother would return but apparently the lady creamates animals as a job so i got a bit worried so put that down in the strange things seen out on the trail thread.
sorry to sound like a animal hater in my last comment but im far from that and hardly think im steve irwin, sorry for the inconvenice caused
see JP im putting full stops in my sentences now :)

haha good old brownies i like to think of brownies alot like taxes a avoidable part of life those things are everywhere i live in blacktown and i still get them gimmi the tiger snake anyday. There was a incident out my way dunno if u heard of it or not of two kids catching them and one got bit and died so people have really been super careful around them. if u do get a snake in ur backyard remeber wat to do call the rspca or wires and they will be more than happy to get rid of it for you dont approach a snake unless you have experience and remeber Understand Identify Avoid and Survive

i love how the thread changed from riding to snakes
By the way im up for any ride at night just choose the spot and ill turn up image doing the hike a bike at winmallee at night that would be fun
