Little teaser of this weekends rainy plans. Will update as it progresses.

One part still in the post (pun intended) and the less exciting bits are still on the old frame this is replacing

Hurts. Requires Money. And is nerdy.
You almost had me slow clapping when I read it, it’s deffinately a compliment.

Surly cog looks promising, we haven’t had a ss build here in awhile.

Is looking for a 16" bar
People prolly think I'm religious.
But I say damn them to hell!

Have fun building righteous bike stuff!

Part 3 - doing most of your long weekend plans on Friday afternoon...

Not a great pic and still plenty to do:
- remote lockout
- re-tubeless tyres
- shorten brake lines and bleed
- bed brakes in. Anyone with Magura brakes will now this is a task in itself
- setup fork

Things I have learnt:
- buying a brand new fork was a must. 200mm steerer and it’s a medium frame
- half internal, half external dropper routing is a real pain, worse that fully internal
- Thomson trail bars are thicker than my old Easton XC so my expanding bar ends won’t fit. I bet I lose those stupid push in ones on my first ride

Took it for a quick spin up the road. 71.5 degree HA vs 67, 685mm bars vs 740mm, 60mm stem vs 40mm and chainstays that are about an inch shorter make it a very different handling bike. Will take some adjusting but is more like my dually so at least changing from one to the other won’t be as significant (excluding rear suspension)

I don’t understand hardtails with gears, particularly frames which have a tensioner... :cough: XTC :cough:

Surly cog is actually a backup, I don’t like it but managed to bend a tooth on my nice wolf tooth stainless one when I changed cranks and hadn’t noticed the chainline changed. Christmas tree decoration now.

That’s a very clean bike you have there man.

I agree with the ss sentiment, i’ve got two ss hardtails atm and love them both.

Tidiest cockpits ever, quiet riding, bugger all maintenance, extra clearance, whats not to love

What don’t you like about the surly cog? My ones have lasted forever.

are you referring to the maxxis ardent? yep not a fan either

PS great build, i wonder if tanwalls might have looked with the grey? the Aus SS nats are getting close in Alice now, in a month many will be starting their travels

No, tyre alignment dude. As you don;t even know what you've done my offer has been reduced to $45.
I’ll pay you $45 if you come and get it now, will have to organise a meeting point, don’t want my neighbours to know I didn’t line up the branding...

But I do have to fix it, I put the tyres on at the start of the year, took me about half an hour to get the bead to seat due to asymmetric nipple holes. Finally seated it and noticed that it was out, then I cried.

Had Conti X-Kings on previously and they were crap, before that were Ikons which weren’t aggressive enough. Ardents seem to work well for me, probably try something different next time.

Tan walls didn’t happen, my mate wouldn’t have ridden with me if I bought them

Yeah don’t worry about that massive crack in the concrete though, it’s fine

And in the wild. Only change is some narrower flat bars, the rise made the front end too tall and I just couldn’t get used to the ‘wide’ bars - particularly climbing
