NOBMOB Censorship

Yes in most cases around the world, advocates are more well rounded, here on the NORTHERN BEACHES however, its taking a little longer.
Yer, for sure. The Northern Beaches is definitely one of the more narrow minded areas within the Greater Sydney region in this sense, I blame it on an aging population of conservative baby-boomers, unwilling to support anything that doesn't include a community center attached to a cafe. These conservatives drive, and extremely heavily, the political structure of the local governments, they too easily sway the minds of counselors.
I blame it on the pigheaded, opinionated post nazi that for a long time held himself up to be the one and only spokesperson of mountain biking on the northern beaches. The one that does delete posts from other community members simply because he doesn't like them, the one that bans people from "his" community owned and authored site and then proceeds to lie about them and why they were banned on said forum knowing full well they have no way of voicing fact and illustrating his lies and deceit to the rest of the community. There is no doubt that the face behind RobNob is a very talented interwebby person but that clearly doesn't get trails and when that "face" isn't capable of sitting face to face with someone and having open discussion with them about relevant topics because they hold a different opinion to his own, then the uphill battle becomes even more difficult. Just as submitting posts on a public forum that you alone have editorial control over mocking, ridiculing and abusing the very people you are trying to negotiate with does nothing to help legitimise trail access.

Look at the bigger picture and the success of trail advocates in other areas of Aus. Yes it's been a slog for many but there are many success stories around. Look at the Northern Beaches. In the 5 or 6 years that RobNob have been actively campaigning for trail advocacy and access on the Northern Beaches, how many trails have been legitimised? None. How many have been lost, too many to count. Up until two or three months ago, the closest new "trail" to be legitimised was one that was built "illegally" and is realistically closer to Horsnby than any of the Northern Beaches

No doubt, he has the best of intentions and has put in many countless hours for what he believes is a worthy cause, but that does not excuse the behaviour the OP has quiet correctly criticised and questioned.

Consider this: If you post a link to www.snorc.info or (god-forbid) the Snorc Facebook page (Facebook is hated by the British webguru), on the NobMob website it will be deleted. The Drupal god told me this would be the reaction, and it's because the snorc committee chose not to use the GlobalRiders network web option. There is no need to be like that.

Here is some more positive local news (for those who live around Hornsby):
HSMBA (now known as Snorc committee) the following is in the pipeline:

On the bright side:

1) There are a lot of committed builders in the area so we never seem to be short of a trail to ride :clap2:

2) Rob is probably old and so he will soon trade in his bike for one of those electric shopping mall scooter things.

I couldn't agree more.

Im not sure you can blame the entire situation on RobNob, Emu. On the Northern Beaches there is a general hatred of cyclists. If you could blame anyone, you would point the finger at those local celebrities that lobby against cycling, such as that (without making any apologies, shes a right-bitch) Wendy Harmer, who seriously damaged the sport using her access to mainstream television and her relationship with other comedians. At least RobNob is an advocate for the sport.

The way I see it (coming from within the government system) we need to gain the trust of the general community. We need to do this through the development of frameworks, through a relationship between local governments and riding organizations which essentially convey a need for riding areas and a subsequent management plan that will become utilized for the construction and management of trails, much like a 'plan of management' for parks and other community areas which are in place to address various concerns. These plans of management then become the governing document for all activity, and they work well; local governments can in turn ask the state government for funding, its not very difficult at all.

Mr Spokey Dokey. The master of cynicism.

He has, like myself felt the wrath of the NOBMOB censorship committee.

Still like the site though. Plenty of good work been put into it.

Cheers
Hey, slowandold, doozy of a conversation, huh? Hope these guys don't find our private forum...

You up for a dig Wednesday morning?
