I don't know if this has already been covered here but here we go anyhow.
It could easily pop up in the Douche Listing of the Day thread but one day wouldn't cover it.

The Oaks Single track at Glenbrook is closed due to, wait for it, asbestos contamination :flame: See link below.

With a shipping date of 2066 since asbestos related diseases can take a long time to develop?

How Is It Treated?

While there is no cure, treatment options include:

Oxygen therapy to relieve shortness of breath
Respiratory physiotherapy to remove secretions from the lungs
Medications to thin secretions and relieve pain

more to the point, why do they still let the shit into the country. Not sure if it was cherry cars or not but they imported cars with asbestos in them a few years ago, it was discovered by the govt. The solution was to put a sticker on the car warning people of asbestos hazard. Don't really understand why they didn't tell them to fuck off with their cars. Any company that brings the shit into the country should e charged the same as drug smugglers, fuck me at least you have a choice on what you take.

It is suspected that crushed material brought in to maintain the trail maybe contaminated. The same material used elsewhere was found to be contaminated so as a precaution NPWS has closed the single track until specialist teams can inspect and either give the all clear the material is clean or they remove it from site. Either way the closure should be short lived.

The bloke is either a genuine whistle blower or has the shits he got sacked.

If the fill is indeed contaminated, this will turn out to be a massive issue with the amount of fill that has been moved around to different areas.

Not if they find asbestos. We had a similar issue at work a couple of years age where a company leasing one of our properties wanted to put in some mounds of dirt landscaping. We said we would consider it, they went ahead and did, had asbestos. They had a $400k+ clean up bill

Sounds ominous and maybe some cover up as the yellowmundee site have found some 'prehistory' asbestos but clear the trail as safe. It most likely is anyway.

I have it in my home and have lived with it for years in many homes, I'm not too concerned myself.

People who worked with it seem most at risk.

Most of the time it is in sheet form and is safe as houses unless you are hitting it with an angle grinder. I have had a number of sites where we have had to put air monitoring in place and never detected a fibre...though I think back to my youth and working on a site breaking up a AC shed old school style and I can remember what I now know was the asbestos fibres glistening in the sun...

This. The actual risk of inhaling a fibre from some fragments on the ground is very very low, but everyone gets all hysterical when they hear the 'a' word.

The asbestos was a component of the brake pads I believe. Main danger was for people changing from the original pads on the cars that had them.

I was there on Saturday and the single track is all open. A detour sign is still up where the single track crosses the fireroad but they had a Pally Palin event going through it.
