Oh More Tassie Trails

taking a shit with my boobs out
Just in time for my Christmas visit
George Town was worth a visit before these new trails, now definitely worth it.

World Trail built trails so quality riding.

We stayed there for the final 3 nights on the last visit then left there for the boat. Was planning to ride Iron Tor before the boat but the rain was bouncing 30cm off the tarmac at Penguin.

Seems to never end. :)
I was hoping to get over there around Feb/March for about a week, but god knows how I'll settle on where/what to ride now!

Boat and drive
I have a friend who rode all the Derby tracks in one weekend, no shuttles. You might be overdoing Derby in that plan!

I think the Iron Tor at Penguin is the best track (certainly my favourite track) in Penguin. It's an amazing track. Only problem is you have to earn your turns and it's a big climb.

The new tracks at Zeehan look amazing, but again, you'll have to earn your turns.

The existing stuff at Georgetown is nice, but a day is more that enough to get multiple laps on all the tracks with a shuttle, it's no Derby.

Latrobe is nothing special and most of the Railton and Sheffield tracks aren't either, although there are some good bits (Seven Shreds is easily the best built track in the entrie network).

2 days isn't enough for Maydena. It's hard work, because the descents are so long, and there's so many tracks you could easily justify much much longer.

If you're spending all that money to come down, spend the money to do the Blue Tier and the Bay of Fires tracks. They're hard to self shuttle and they're big days, but they're fantastic. If you get the First 13 when it's slightly tacky but not actually wet it will blow your mind.

Don't forget there's also riding in Hobart, on the mountain and at South Hobart. Hard to find, but really good quality. And if it's pissing the rain, the eastern shore is so dry that rain makes it better.

There's definitely more to Tassie than Derby, that's for sure!

Dreaming Pools is a great loop, at St Helen's, but for most of us mere mortals requires a day of its own.

Have to disagree regarding the Wild Mersey network. I think it is well worth a day or two in your schedule.

If you only have a week, try 3 days in Derby (some shuttles, some climbs), 2 days in St Helens, a Bay of Fires, a Blue Tier, and finish off with some shuttle laps at Georgetown (lot less gradient, it's a lot easier on the body).

Or go west, 3 days in Maydena (all shuttles - could easily do more), 2 days in Queenstown (you could 1, trails aren't that great, Waterfall is the pick of the bunch), 1 day in Zeehan (a very big day, lots of pedalling), 1 day in Penguin on the Iron Tor - that's 7 days. Finish off Railton with some pedalling, or drive to Georgetown for some shuttles, it's not that far.

I think Wild Mersey is worth a day or two (particularly Railton) but definitely should be at the bottom of the list.

Take the 'Deliverance shortcut' and it makes it so much easier. Look at my Strava from last month.
Just don't stop or you will be squealing like a pig.

There is and I have rode most of the Tassie trails over 5 trips now.
IMO, if you could only ride one place, Derby has the best trails in Australia.
It's good to mix it up but every time we are doing the riding loop, apart from Maydena, we're pining to get back to Derby for the last few days.

Who wants to make it easier? You're missing part of the experience. Would be like only doing Iron Tor downhill, you're missing out on a great, scenic climb.

Cows go boing
5 trips and no Iron Tor?? madness.... it should be on everyone's Tassie to-do list.. Some good stuff at SoHo which is definitely worth checking out too. It was actually a local SoHo guy who I bumped into while riding there who said to 100% go check it out as its his favourite trail in Tassie... Its definitely a bit off the radar, but that's probably a good thing too.

I've done the whole trail. I did the cop out smartass on the last trip, pity 7 out of 11 took the shorty.
