Old Frames

Well, ive been thinking of a few ideas for a new build recently, and something poped up unexpectedly. Its a 2001 24 Pornking.
The problem is.. is that too old?
To be honest, the frame looks awesome. Becide the usual cable rub, which after 7 years is more than expected. There are no cracks or dents by the way.

What is everyones oppinions on using old frames?
Does anyone ride and older frame? if so, what is it and is it still holding up strong?

After writing that, I think ive just convinced myself, that no.. its not to old. As long as the frames in good nick, then why not. So, if it hasnt sold already i think ill be the happy new owner of an old Pornking.

*Edit; there is a photo of the frame for interests sake*

Glad we could help;)

No, really depends on the life it's had, Porn kings are Aluminium frames and therefore do have a finite lifespan. Well all materials do I guess...

Has it been used for trials is a good question to ask. Is it the original paint job? EDIT - just saw the pic, looks like it...

I have a 2001 P3 which is doing fine but doesn't get ridden a heap.

Cheers mate,
The seller says he used it for 'urban'. Which im assuming is street and DJ and trialsy' stuff. Im going to view the frame on the weekend, which should give me some more indication as to how its faired. The seller says its had an easy life, but im a bit hesitant as thats a pretty comon thing to say from a sellers point of view.

Anyone onwed a PornKing? any particular things to look for on a second hand frame?

thanks. Kieran

i have a 2001 kona stinky dee-lux. as good as the day it was bought, but obviously as stated above, the thrashing it gets during its lifespan will determine weather you get much more of a go out of it.

just remember that the pornking is a top quality build, and despite its age will probably still be better/tougher than some of the new things getting around.

i guess you could say its like comparing, say, an e-type jaguar (1960's i think) to a modern kia or hyundai

as most would know, there is a resurgence in the interest in old road frames for peoples singlespeed and fixey projects. I think we are starting to see a similar thing with old mtb frames as well. some people want to restore/reuse them for same/similar purpose to original, others want a different looking commuter/pub bike and others just want to play.

I think it is really cool to see the older frames used - just see the 1997 specialized hardrock thread for a bit of fun!
