OMFG - Old MTB Farts Gathering

Here's an idea... ok well that might be stretching it... maybe it's too lame anyway...

How bout a gathering of the old MTB farts?

OMFG (Old MTB Farts Gathering) - now there's a memorable acronym for the ride straight up, perfectly suited to a t-shirt. everyone knows old guys like souvenir t-shirts.

In practical terms, a loose gathering of old guys (40+, vet pretenders can go away quietly and age) getting together for a day or weekend social XC/All Mountain MTB ride.

Suggested location: Central Victoria, lots of good riding and ok I live there so that's convenient.

Ride starts and ends somewhere good - food, coffee, bbq or something.

yeah that's pretty well thought out, I have to admit!

The idea was the fun bit. Let's end it there then. We can still get the t-shirts done!

You really just want the t-shirt yeah?

GDT? Start with coffee/hot chocolate @ Chocolate Mill & end with a BBQ @ Vaughan Springs..

I'm only a pretender but can send my Vet hubby ;) (and help with shuttles like a good wife :p)

Sydney ?

OMFG Maybe someone could organize one in sydney heaps of old farts here ,Ourimbah would be good

Be very careful NOT to offend the majority of the people in this sub-forum. Besides, I "feel" 40+!!!!!

You'd hope by the time anyone is 30+ they either have developed a sense of humor, thick skin, or don't visit online forums... but yeah ok, feeling 40+ will do, just having a dig :D

Seriously though could be fun to have something for older guys, even just the occasional social ride throughout the year.

A social ride without a t-shirt would do I guess... but you know, you enter/participate in something, you don't get a t-shirt. Did it really happen, who can say?! :p

GDT would be fun for sure I reckon, apart from transport logistics of not doing a loop. Starting at chocolate mill, nice! To Vaughan only maybe too short. Maybe BBQ lunch, swim etc at Vaughan (great flow of water there atm) continuing onto Castlemaine, ending at the Theatre Royal or somewhere.

Alternatively a loop of some sort. We do a loop from Guildford to Mt Franklin and back, taking in the GDT, fire tracks, Vaughan Springs etc, good fun. Something like that, no need for shuttles.

I've only done Daylesford to Vaughan Springs so not sure how far past that to Castlemaine. MrH would be in on a ride up that way - he wants to check out the GDT.

I say 'build it and they will come' - pick a date and do it :)

+1 for holding it in Victoria. I'm old enough to play and poor enough to not travel far.

I`m up for it. Someone pick a date and venue. See who turns up. Another vote for central Vic (Bendigo sounds good. I wouldn`t have to drive then).
Maybe we could give out a prize for the biggest old fart rant of the day?
Cheers

We have been doing this in Sydney for awhile, it ran under the blue mountains turgid riders, it ran for a couple of years and has morphed into a political lobby group for legal trails in the blue mountains, under the bmorc website, lots of tired, old people with plenty of excuses:D:D, ride days are funny, people leaving early to go home and nap!!!

Sounds great to me, I'll have to pretend, but certainly feel 40+ which should qualify me.

I havent ridden out that way in ages, as long as we skip Maldon I'm in.

Stick a pin on the calendar and we'll see what happens.

heya I'd like to get an OMFG up and running in Vic, but looking into it more for insurance etc it needs to be run/supported by a club. The one I had in mind isn't keen, I've got a couple more to try yet but any suggestions would be great.

Location-wise I was thinking the Wombat MTB and Woodend would probably be a good match. Not far out of Melbourne, all the services at Woodend and the trail itself is great fun.

Does it have to be so formal as to involve insurance and the like. Surely a loose collection of saggy oldies, who agree on a date and time, promptly forget it and turn up a couple of days late, go for a short ride around some flat oval near a pub (being grass qualifies it as off road, and if there are a few stairs around to ride down, as a downhill track) and then quietly re-retire to drink some frothies.... of the cappuccino variety only of course ;)

I'm in, not back in Oz until after March 22nd, happy to hit Woodend, but only if you promise to go slow!!

Oh and given the age group involved, could we make a rule..... no lycra allowed!! Dry retching doesn't become me!! :p

NSW Sth Coast anyone? My motto is 'I think I can, I think I can', then blow up like the Kiama blow hole.

haha, yeah lycra free zone - no flabby buttocks! Hide it all under baggies is what I reckon :D

I hear ya re insurance. The problem is though if there's a reasonable turnout and someone has a drama on the ride the theory of love and friendship tends to fly out the window... too often the finger of blame goes looking.

all that said, Woodend after the 22nd sounds good!
