Nice looking track. Is that A line with the rock roll down into the ramp slower than the B line?
Nope, It is heaps quicker probably 15 seconds. The rider that you see in the baggies at 2:41 in the video goes in behind one rider and then exits behind a complete different rider. He made heaps of time.

Thanks to Brian, Bill & Gordan for the Gargantaun Brushcutting effort today. The top loop is now complete and ready for the HMBA social ride.
.....oh yeah and it is rad.

How does the course compare to say Appin in terms of technicality?
Just trying to work out how fast and to what level I have to get the wife's skill level up to before she can confidently ride the B lines......

all b-lines are easily rollable and there are a few off camber corners and lumps to roll over. there are a few trees that have tight clearance. these features should just keep riders on their toes more than be too difficult.

if wifey can ride appin, she'll have no problems at pato. there are no step up/drops like appins except a few of the a-lines.

What would a good gearing for a SS be with 26" wheels?
I've ridden 32x20 on the big wheels so.... 32x18 on little wheels would be a good starting point. There is two climbs that will hurt no matter what gear you use however. Perhaps bring a 19 tooth and swap it at midnight :)

HMBA social ride

Date: 15.5.11
Where: Paterson track, meet at the end of Boulton rd, Paterson, at the gates.
When: Departing 9.30am
Ok so since the last one was rained out we are going to try again out at the new Paterson track. This is the last chance to get in a ride on the track before the 24hr so you know what you will be in for
We will be doing the full track (If you did the 3hr race, that was almost half the 24hr track.)and after there is the option of grabbing a feed and/or a beer in Paterson.
If you don't have a current MTBA licence, a $5 day licence is available on the day. Anyone is welcome, if you have a bike that goes on dirt you should come.
See you there.

potential pain a soloist may endure

if one were to compare the pain that the Paterson climb may dispense upon a soloist rider to say the climbs at the wsc at stromlo, would one say that it is more like the first climb(up the front of Stromlo) or the second(bastard pinchy) climb out the back of Stromlo.

I only request the above information to correctly formulate the chain tension required on my single speed...??

Much more like the second climb. Perhaps next year we will unearth some fossilized switchbacks however we didn't get time for 2012.
