Stations used to be positioned near loads then moved closer to fuel supply because it was cheaper to ship electrons than coal. Many of the new solar or wind farms are near defunct power stations because of the HV transmission infrastructure.
Swanbank was three stations, A, B and strangely C. A and B were pulverised coal units and now long gone. C is a single CCGT (Alstom GT26) and is back running after a hiatus. There are still HV lines in the area and it is a candidate for a renewable farm of some sort. Kogan Ck is next door to its coal supply but also conveniently located to the QNI. A proposed solar farm next door didnt happen. A large solar farm is next to DDPS near Dalby and takes advantage of existing HV grid. Collinsville same, etc.
