Polygon Cozmic 29er or suggestions.

Hey guys,
It has been along time since I have rode an MTB, I am in need of getting fit and want to start riding again to eventually race.

I am looking at buying a polygon Cozmic 29er CX3.0, does anyone have one or ridden one in the past year or 2?, are they a decent unit?, or should I look at the focus black mountain, Cube or the Norco charger.

I am after a 29er as evident by the earlyer info, but I am open to suggestions I am 185cm tall and not a light weight either so something strong is required. Intended riding is a combo of road & trail, mainly sealed back roads to get fit and loss weight to start with.

Budget 1400 or less

I am open to suggestions.

Thanks Melony.

Im looking at the same bikes as well seeing as the frame on my commuter snapped last night... this way i can use it as a commuter and get rid of the 26 hard tail thats kicking about too. (easy sell to the mrs - new bike = one less bike).

Anyway im thinking for the price but it for the spec, swap the frame for a nice steel 'on one' frame

The Polygon Collosus(??) dually got a pretty good value for money review recently in a mag (late last year), just cant put my hands on the article - I know it wasnt AMB, Enduro or Dirt.

So I guess what im saying is it looks good value for money and is a decent spec. which seems to be the case across a lot of their range. Just not sure how they ride nor what service is like with them being only distributed by one retailer.

bit of an unknown Indonesian brand, I'd rather go Giant, Scott, Merida or the Norco. they're proven brands racing etc. the shop you buy it from is also going to be a factor and the Polygon is from the online shop bicycles, so would rather go LBS for warranty and service. you can also test ride. you'll get a good bike for 1400.

Polygon:
5 Year Warranty on frame
2 Year Warranty on parts

Giant
Warranty of lifetime for -
• The bicycle frame, except on models intended for downhill purposes.

Merida:
Lifetime frame warranty & carbon crash replacement. Ride with confidence.

I agree about the warranty thing on the frame, I am tall and on the heavy side as well so frame warranty is a major factor.

I think I read the review you are referring too online on bike radar, they were saying great components for price but not to much about the ride or frame.

I will keep an eye on th post and see what others have to say.

I will also not I read online or in a mag that polygon are making frames for giant, trek and some other brand. I am unsure how accurate this info is thou.

Here's a Polygon review from MBA: http://www.scribd.com/doc/110014180/Polygon-Collosus-TX-3-0

There are some good people behind Polygon along with many years of experience. I'd own a Collosus TX by now if they stocked a large in Australia.

Polygon Cozmic29 CX4.0 looks like plenty of bike for the money your talking, SLX/XT, Reba.

Not sure where you are but they have a shop in Manly, Sydney, and are pretty happy to let you take their stuff out for test rides.

thanks for the review,

I live in Grafton NSW, about an 8 hour drive to Sydney hence why I am after what ever info I can get in regards to polygons.

Heading up the coast soon so going to tyre kick 99's stock. See what I find up their as well.

Just to add my 2c here, I bought a polygon Collosus about September last year, I got the 2011 SX 2.0 as I picked it up on runout for 1200 clams. I was looking at giant trek etc but for similar spec I was looking at double the price.
Anyway since I've had this bike I have done plenty of trail and AM type rides on it as well as ridden stromlo and it has handled everything I could dish out. I would also like to add I'm no light weight at 95kg and am not exactly the beat with line choices. So if your thinking of one do it and if you don't like it make use of their 14 day return policy.

Im 99.9 percent sold too but this morning T7 are running KHS 29ers for 1300 with a similar spec. ffnnnnggghhh

I think ill go with the Polygon tho.....just a tad better.

Had a good discussion on the polygons and had a good look over the spec too last night.

Seems they are quite slack for a 29er (70 degree head angle which i like) and also the top tube is shortish for the size which means it could be more manouverable in the twisty stuff. Basically on paper it looks like a ripper! No substitute for a test ride tho.

Anyway if the frame is not that good im not bothered as im after something to ride to work on in the short term with good spec that i can plonk onto a good steel frame later.

No need to worry about the LBS issue if you can do all your own servicing anyway and warranty on the frame? pffffttt if im going to change it anyway - why bother.

I picked up a Polygon DHX late last year, build quality etc is all pretty good. Their service was good to, would recommend them to anyone looking to save money and get good parts.

Thanks guys for your input, seriously considering ordering a Cozmic in the next day or two.

Can you post a few pics and your feedback on first ride and overall package.

I have a mate whose Cozmic (mid spec) should arrive Monday or Tuesday, I will have a squiz and post some pics, observations...

Righto. My buddy's Cozmic arrived on Monday, ordered the previous Thursday.

It just needed the front wheel on. There was no spacer in the front caliper,my friend squeezed the front brake and closed the pads, requiring my professional spreading services. All sweet

Came with the cleats for the SPDs but without a shock pump for the air fork.

The bike feels pretty stiff when pedaling and the 15mm front end is nice and tight. The weight isn't too bad either, certainly scope to improve via the usual methods.

The RRalph's are great tyres and say they are tubeless ready...not sure what the rim looks like inside but we'll be trying for tubeless before too long...

The Recon's feel pretty plush in their 100mm...I'm used to Fox 29s and I would be pleased with how the Recons feel...Rebound and lockout adjustments only I think.

The cable stops look a little rough and came with jagged leg slicer zip ties that need trimming...

Point at someone else.JPG

Plenty of spacers. I'm no expert but the welds look neat.

No Hovering.JPG

SLX 2x10. Can't go wrong.

Keep your cursor off me thanks.JPG

The brakes feel great 180 and 160mm and the rear is mounted inside the rear triangle

It's the brakes.JPG

Slight paint chip on seatstay...out of the box

Paint chip. OK.JPG

I reckon the Cozmic is pretty good value and certainly feels a good step up from base entry level bikes... Quite fun to ride...Quite reasonable spec for the price, and decent warranties apply...

Hope this helps your decision

(took me ages to type this..dumb broken bones)

Thanks heaps guys for posting your polygon info.

I went into my local today just to have a final look at the rock shox on the Cozmic, joking around with the shop mechanic/sales guy I asked if they would match the giant XTC at 1275 of for the riders to my suprise I got a yes. So in two weeks I will ride out on an XTC when they arrive in stock.

Thanks unclefeet for your pics, and all your effort.
