Post your commuter!

My commuters

My main SS langster.

It's had a bunch of upgrades since this photo.

My fixed langster

Doesn't get ridden as much as the SS langster because it's no so good downhill but gets a run about once a week.

Hey TD do you have a new commuter planned yet?

Yeah, I've sadly moved through different stages of post-bike-theft....
  • shock
  • disbelief
  • rage
  • determination
  • demoralized
And I've reached the last one... acceptance. (Mind you, that reward offer STILL stands and always will...)

I've now put my hopes in my insurance company that they'll back me up. I'm prepared for the worst.... which is no payout. If that happens, Carlin, I've decided to take the plunge and take a page out of you fixie fanatic's book and get a fixie. A narrow, flat-bar, single brake fixie. And maybe graduate to brakeless. Should be an adventure riding from Manly to Newtown every day with it, especially with all the hills.

If I get a small payout, I'll try to hook up with an affordable bike that has an eccentric bottom bracket, so I can have different options down the road.

If I get the full valuation payout (which I don't expect at all, but ya never know....), well, let's just say that Rohloff I've been dreaming about will finally become reality!

Anonymous and just like everything else, hopefully it won't get pinched. It rides well but I'm still getting used to the inherent drag in geared hubs. The useless 'suspension' post is going to disappear shortly.

Mostly I use my first proper mountain bike, a steel Giant ATX 780 purchased new in 1993. Grandpa's axe. Only the frame and seat post remain. Got a disc brake tab welded on to drag it into the 21st century.

If the weather is really foul I take the Malvern Star. $10 from the tip shop, it's just fine on the way to work. Had to modify the gearing so I could get it back uphill to home.

Tyson, both bikes are very cool.
I'm about to do the same mod to an old '97 Norco steel frame.
Ditch the grannyring!

And here I was thinking that Maxxis bicycle tyres were imported by Bikecorp.

No need to panic guys there are about 3 or 4 Maxxis bicycle tyre distibutors
in Oz, let alone Moto and Car not that I know whos who but who would
want to use inferior tyres anyway
And I suppose every one is going to stop buying books from Borders and
Coffee from Gloria Jeans. A different religious groups comercial efforts to
obtain funding.

crap! i just went into the new borders in perth over the weekend and loved the gloria jeans setup inside.

not anymore!

Ta....you're right about the granny ring- I never use it when commuting. Might make it go away.

Some of the old 90's steel frames are tops. The Norco will make a good project. A mate working across the corridor from me has an old steel Norco job from the 90's. I've got my eyes on it...

Definitely the coolest drive-train I have ever seen..

I am deeply envious of you guys with your fixies, I'm dieing for one!

here's my commuter - but it's not just a commuter, it's also my road bike and pub bike. Is that so wrong?

It's a really nice old steel frame, and most of the bits on it are quite old, but still working like a charm. pretty light for its age too.

I have also given into fashion and put in an Singlespeed nationals spoke card in the front wheel - it says "I fell down and got drunk at the Aust SS Nats and all I got was this bloody spoke card". Tee hee - tres amusement. It's not in this pic tho...
